STORY OF MICHAEL
*Michael's POV*
"Mike, we're gonna be late! Hurry..." my mom yelled from the bottom of the stairs.
"Coming!" I yelled back. I ran down the stairs and ran out to the car.
Today I have an appointment because I have been feverish the last couple of days, I haven't been eating very much, and I've been having the worst headaches. Not to mention I keep hearing ringing sounds. They're non-stop and life-less.
I finally got off my feet this week.
When we got to the doctors' office it wasn't a long wait. After five minutes they called me and we went to a medical room.
First a nurse came in, and asked what's the symptoms are, asked some more information, and all that crap.
Then Dr. Martins came into check what doctors usually do.
"Open up and say ahh," he said as he checked my mouth, then he looked up my nose and then my ear.
"Okay, now take a deep breath." He said as he put the stethoscope on my chest.
"You may have mumps." he said.
"Is it serious?" my mother asked.
"Well it depends, how long have you felt sick?" He asked me.
"I think about a week or so." I answered.
"Okay." he said.
__________________________
I didn't know at the time that the disease I got was much worse. My mother blamed herself and my father couldn't do anything since he is.... on duty in Afghanistan. Once my dad got the news about my disease he retired almost immediately.
When he came back he helped with almost everything. My whole life was better and even my mumps went away. Although my hearing was still impaired, just the pain going away was enough for me to be glad.
I was sitting with my mom and dad, we all waited for the nurse to call my name.
"Michael?" a nurse said as she looked around.
I stood up and followed her as my parents followed me.
We sat down and Dr. Martins came into the room.
"So Michael are you feeling any better?" he asked.
"Um.... yes but I still can barley hear anything."
After that Dr. Martins explained that it was permanent. If the pain was gone and the mumps were gone then it was permanent.
My mother squeezed my shoulder and I could imagine her tears running down her face but I couldn't hear her.
"We are going to schedule an appointment with a speech therapist and we are also getting Michael hearing aids." Dr. Martin stated as he typed something on his laptop.
