Day 1

~First-Person Narration: MoonShadow~

~10:49 P.M.~

I was walking through the halls in the back of the base, slowly making my way to Ratchet’s room. I just . . . needed company, I guess. And one, no two, of our own were put in danger less than twenty-four hours ago.

Shadow: Maybe Ratchet can put my mind to rest, if only for a moment . . . After all, I haven’t seen him all day. He can’t really turn me away in this turmoil, can he?

I stopped outside his room when I heard voices. I wasn’t expecting him to already be busy . . . why were there voices? But it soon became clear. Through the small crack in the door, I could make out the medic and the Prime.

Ratchet: “Optimus, you have got to stop beating yourself up over this.”

    Ratchet was right . . . he looked . . . distressed.

Optimus: “Ratchet, what if she is never heard from again? What if we lose two valuable allies? We need every soldier we can get and we could be losing them tonight.”

Ratchet: “This isn’t about the both of them, Optimus, I’m not a fool. We both know what’s really eating you up inside right now.”

Optimus paused, then took a ragged intake, relaxing his vocalizer just slightly.

Optimus: “She has laid down her life for ours. She isn’t even-. You never should have changed her. I never should have given her permission. She could die for a cause older than she can imagine.”

Ratchet: “Optimus! She knew the dangers as well as any of us! You need to stop obsessing over this silly girl who, though dedicated and talented for a novice, has made her intentions and dedication clear. She knows everything she needs to! Obviously you do not know what a waste of time this is for you.”

Shadow: Waste of time? Silly girl? Well, I guess that says everything I need it to, now doesn’t it?

I sighed, not liking the what I’d heard in the least. How could he have said that?

MoonShadow: I wish I hadn’t been that same silly waste of time to him.

I walked away, not wanting to hear the rest of their conversation.

~General Narration~

Ratchet: “Optimus, I know you care for her, but do you really need her to go on?”

Optimus: “I do not know, Ratchet, but I do need to see her to forgive myself again.”

Ratchet: “Optimus, I didn’t realize-.”

The medic sighed. He admitted something to himself he’d been trying to hide.

Ratchet: “Or maybe I did. I guess I am jealous that you’ve found someone who’s in step with you and knows your spark beats better than yourself. But at the same time . . .”

He was, however, cautious to admit it aloud.

Optimus: “Ratchet, have you-?”

The Prime began. The medic finished his leader’s sentence.

Ratchet: “Found someone I care for? I’m afraid I have.”

Optimus: “You fear this?”

Ratchet: “I fear she does not feel the same.”

Day 2

Shadow: “How are you holding up, kiddo?”

The experimented femme asked the girl she’d been spending most of the day with thus far. Miko looked at MoonShadow with wide eyes and almost lost a tear. Her face was contorted in repressed sorrow.
