"Delphi! Wake up. It's your first day, you don't want to be late." I groaned as I heard my mom scream from downstairs, attempting to wake me up. She had this uncanny habit of beating the alarm by five minutes. I hated mornings but just the idea of my first day of college brought a smile on my face.

I'd worked so hard to get into a college, and I wouldn't let anything ruin that. Not even waking up at seven in the morning was going to stop me from having a rocking day.

My morning route was quite mundane, no elaborate self care moments and no time set apart for a workout. None of that was because of my lack of trying, it just never stuck.

I wasn't a total fashion freak nor was I a total loser, I am somewhere in between the social ladder. Though, climbing it was never my goal. I'm the kinds who doesn't mind skirts but leans towards jeans, the kinds who doesn't wear make up but doesn't mind putting it on for a special occasion.

Getting out of the shower I blow dried my hair letting my brunette locks fall causally till my waist. Wrapping a towel around myself I made my way to the most time consuming part of my mornings, the outfit choice.

Thinking for a while; I pulled on a navy blue tank top, white shrug and a black jeans. I slipped on a necklace which hung low, near my upper abdomen.

Since today was a special day for me I put on some mascara making my light blue eyes pop and coated my lips with transparent lip balm.

My parents gifted me the name Delphi Lillian Westworld and with it the ability to turn into a wolf. Yes, a wolf. We actually do happen to exist. Those rumours that we can only shift during new moons and that we dislike towards vampires are just careless myths. We can shift whenever we feel the need or want to and the vampire kingdom doesn't bother us nor we; them. An average wolf shifts at eighteen and Alpha's shift at the age of sixteen. I shifted a few months ago on my eightieth birthday.

We do have mates, or as humans call it- soul mates.

We usually get to know our mate at the age of eighteen. Both wolves can only feel the bond when they are eighteen excluding the Alpha, before that you are just good friends or generally attracted to each other.

I hadn't met my mate yet, not that it was on number one on my priority list. I didn't mind having a mate, I mean, I wanted one but I really wanted to become something first, be independent. A fair amount of my life was spent depending on someone and it was time for a change.

A mate is a very precious and beautiful thing for a werewolf, our life starts and end with our significant others.

I have seen how she-wolves have to change their lifestyle and depend on their mates for survival. I can't imagine being like that. I've always been taught to be self reliant, to lean on my family and no one else. My mother was a living example, she is a chef at a restaurant owned by the pack.

Any dish prepared by her hand was my guilty pleasure and she balanced both her work and personal life well. The equilibrium required for a healthy family, some would say.

A mate doesn't sound bad but a career sounds better.

Anyhow, back to being a werewolf, we were created by the moon goddess and worship her. Thousands of years back, she combined a werewolf and human as she believed humans are a species that need to be modified for betterment and as her favourite animal was wolf. This is what she came up with.

I ran my fingers through my hair and went downstairs.

"Good morning, mom." I greeted her sitting on the dining table.
"Morning. I made bacon and eggs, honey. Would you like some?" Mom questioned turning around in her purple apron.

"Of course. I'm starving." I smiled at her as she tugged her black hair behind her ear and placed a plate full of delicious looking food infront of me.

My mother was the epitome of beauty. Her wavy black hair falling till her shoulders and her grey eyes complementing her complexion. She was about 5'6.

Taller than me as I was merely 5'5. Her face had a fair share of wrinkles due to old age along with freckles. She looked responsible and mature. I always aspired to be like her but I had followed my dad's foot steps for a career choice.

"It's yum." I moaned, chewing on the bacon.

"Thanks, excited?" She asked looking enthusiastic.

"Overly. But I'm also nervous, mom. What if I don't fit in? " I questioned looking at her through my eyelashes in an insecure stance. It wasn't a problem to fit in in high school, I wouldn't say I was popular, I was a normal girl with only a handful of friends.

"Honey, you will," She reassured as I narrowed my eyes at her. "Even if you don't, that barely matters. You are going to this college to study not be a popular queen bee."

"Amen to that. Thanks, mom. That's what I needed to hear." I smiled her putting my plate in the dishwasher. She always knew what to say to encourage me at all times.

"Anytime, honey. You look beautiful by the way." She said winking at me. Well, that was also a part of my mom. She acted like my best friend whenever I needed her to be and a mother whenever she had to be.

"Bye. I'll see you later." I said, picking up my car keys and bag.

"All the best." she shouted after me. My dad was not home, as usual. He is a pack doctor so he had to be in the hospital most of the times. I wanted to follow his way of life and become a successful doctor. I was going to medical college and I couldn't wait. This was something I dreamt of since I came to know my dads job though it didn't intensify until only a few months back. I loved helping people and had an interest in biology so, why not?

I drove to the campus which wasn't that far. Only a few kilometres about fifteen minutes from home. Parking my car in an empty spot I slid off the seat and made my way to where I assumed the office was.

"Hello, I'm new here. My name's Delphi Lillian Westworld. Today is my first day, could you give me a map or something so that I can navigate through?" I asked the receptionist.

"Hello, dear. Welcome to St. Catherine Medical College. Our secretary will show you around. She'll be arriving soon." She gave me a warm smile. The receptionist was a short lady with short blonde hair and nerdy classes.

"Thank you, Miss," I trailed off not knowing what to call her.

"I'm Jane." She extended her hand for me to shake which I took gratefully.
"Morning, Jane" Another voice coming from behind me, greeted.

"I was just talking about you, Merlyn. This is Delphi, she's new here. Could you show her around?" Jane looked over my shoulder and asked as I turned to put a face on the name.

Merlyn was about 5'8 with long brown hair and hazel eyes. Her perfect hourglass figure was covered with a pink full sleeve blouse, tight mid thigh black skirt and heels. Oh, that explains the height. She looked around my height without the heels maybe shorter those were some high heels.

All-in-all. Queen bee.

"Hello, I'm Merlyn Chain." She introduced herself turning towards me, eyeing me up and down with a fake smile on her face.

"I'm Delphi Westworld." I returned her forced smile.

"Well, Delphi. Come on."

Moon goddess have mercy on me.
