Chapter Three

Leroy started walking down the street, passing other houses, cottages and bungalows.

He could see the road, which led to the highway and so he stayed away from that path and instead walked the path that would take him to the centre of Chester-by.

"Hey, you!"

Leroy stopped walking, as he heard a female voice and peered around his shoulder to see the young girl in the purple vest top and shorts.

He looked around to make sure she wasn't talking to anyone else, but they were the only two on the street.

The girl jogged up to him and when she was close enough she smiled and held out her hand.

"Hey, my names Karen, Karen Brewster. I noticed this morning that you had moved in, so I thought I would come say hey and welcome you to Chester-by".

Leroy stared down at Karen, silently noticing her face and body, as he could see them much better than from his window.

She couldn't have been more than 5 ft 5, as she had to look up at him. Her eyes were a beautiful jade of green, her hair was black, as raven feathers and her skin was a ghostly white. Her body was small and thin.

"We're you stalking me or something? And when did you see me? This is the first time I've been out and about", Leroy demanded in a rude manner, ignoring her hand.

"Oh, well I kind of was in the garden reading and I saw you in the window, but I looked away when you looked at me, as I didn't want you to worry and get embarrassed thinking I had caught you at an embarrassing time", Karen nervously confirmed to Leroy, while she fiddled with her hair, her face turning into a light shade of pink.

Leroy felt himself blush too, at the thought that she had seen his body.

"You shouldn't have been looking!" Leroy snapped at her and annoyed he turned away from her and headed on his way with his exploring.

Leroy was surprised when Karen jogged to catch up and walked next to him.

"I'm sorry. But don't worry I don't think your a nudist or something, honest", Karen apologised.

"Hmmm", Leroy grunted back at her and she stayed silent, while they walked.

Leroy expected her to stop walking then and to leave him be, or to turn in a different direction but she still continued to follow him.

"What are you doing? Quit following me!" he demanded angrily, glaring down at her, with his bright, chestnut, brown eyes.

"Well you just said this is the first time you have been out and about in Chester-by. I thought I could show you were the shops are so you won't get lost. Also I can show you were you can get the best ice cream ever, honest it's great", Karen beamed up at Leroy.

Leroy sighed, defeated and let her lead him to the shops and this ice cream place. It wasn't long tell Leroy and Karen came to a little line of the village shops.

There was a hairdresser/barber shop, a little co-op, a little cafe, a charity shop, a take away shop, a fish and chip shop and at the end was an ice cream/chocolate/cold beverages shop.

Karen went into that shop and Leroy followed.

There was a bell over the door, which pinged, letting the older woman at the counter know there was customers. She smiled at Karen and Leroy.

They both stood at the counter and Leroy looked at the menu, which was hanging above the counter.

There were cans of coca cola, rubicon, dr pepper, ice cream soda and lemonade.

Their we're bars of galaxy, dairy milk, mars, milky bar and caramel chocolate, as well as boxes filled with chocolate truffles.

The ice cream came in strawberry, chocolate, vanilla, cookie dough, mint choc chip, banana and bubblegum flavour.

Leroy liked the sound of the cookie dough ice cream and the price for it in a tub was £1.50, which he found, luckily in the back pocket of his jeans.

He ordered first and when Karen was getting bubblegum ice cream in a cone, Leroy headed out of the shop and had his first taste of cookie dough ice cream.

It was delicious and melted in his mouth. It was refreshing to eat in the heat of the sun.

Karen came out and started to lick at her ice cream.

Without a word they both headed back the way they came.

As they were walking, both enjoying their ice cream, Leroy noticed Karen looking at him from the corner of her eye and obviously trying to hold back from laughing.

"What?" Leroy asked, as Karen caught him staring down at her.

"You got ice cream on your chin", she giggled, while Leroy wiped his chin with his hand.

"You know, I like your hair. It's really cool, well at first I couldn't believe you had dyed it blue and black, but it's kind of cool", Karen smiled, while slowly licking the melted ice cream, which was overflowing down the cone.

"Thanks", Leroy replied, as he concentrated on consuming his ice cream.

"So what colour hair did you originally have?".

"Blonde".

"Awww, that's a shame, I'd liked to have seen you with your normal hair colour", Karen sighed.

"I'm glad I dyed my hair. I didn't want to have blonde hair".

"How come?".

"It's none of your business, end of discussion", Leroy coldly stated and Karen shut up.

They had reached the road they both lived on and Karen headed to her front door, while Leroy headed to his.

Leroy looked at Karen just as she looked at him.

"It was nice meeting you, I hope we see each other around again. We could maybe hang out some time".

"Hmmm, maybe", Leroy grunted again, as he ate the last bite of his ice cream.

Just as Karen opened the front door and was about to go inside Leroy quickly acted, before he was left outside.

"My name is Leroy, Leroy Jones".

Karen smiled at Leroy and then she went in and closed the front door.
