Chapter Six

Leroy let his mind go blank, as he picked up the lamp from the coffee table and with all his force smashed it against the wall, which resulted to a broken shard of glass to slash his palm and cause blood to drip down and entwine around his wrist. He kicked the coffee table, causing it to fall onto its side. He then punched the wall, which caused his fist to bleed and leave bloody dents and marks.

How could his mum leave him? How could she leave her seven year old child? The bitch!

As Leroy had grown up his feelings had changed towards his mum, at first he missed her, his heart ached for her, but then he grew cold and angry and felt betrayed she had left him. He still loved her, despite the fact that he hated her. He hated her for leaving and putting him and his father through so much years of pain, tears and numbness.

Leroy forced himself to head to the front door and get out of the house before he wrecked the house in his fit of rage.

He had no idea where he was going. He just focused on walking and thinking of nothing to calm himself.

A few times he would kick or punch a brick wall or lamp post, as his anger refused to be calmed.

He slipped down a path between two houses and found himself in a huge field, with a few trees offering shade and protection from the heat of the sun.

Leroy headed straight for the biggest tree he could see, which was in the middle of the field. As he walked he would trample and kick at the wild flowers, which were in his way.

When he had reached the tree and was under its shade he started to climb up the tree moving like a cat and clinging on from branch to branch.

He didn't stop until he was near the very top of the tree and was seated comfortably on the trees thick branch.

He could see the field and views of the houses and a few gardens.

He could feel a pleasant breeze of air on his face and his hair, which made his hair dance and twist around his neck and face.

He breathed in, thankful for the cool air, as it helped to calm his temper down enough. He felt free up high in the tree. Down below he felt grounded and chained to the pavement.

As he looked down he could see a form moving through the shaded path leading to the fields.

He squinted at the form, trying to see who the person was.

It was Karen!

Leroy felt weird inside. He felt his anger completely vanish, as he felt a new emotion come and make him feel happy almost.

As fast as he could he hurried down the tree, slipping occasionally on a tree branch, as he rushed to get down.

He could see that Karen was intrigued in a book, as she was reading, while she walked across the field.

She was wearing a striped black and silver top and some black running shorts. Her hair was up in a loose ponytail. As Leroy headed towards her he found he couldn't stop looking at her. He couldn't stop admiring her physical beauty or thinking about the good feeling he experienced when he saw her heading to the fields.

"Hello, Karen".

Karen jumped and the book in her hand went flying behind her, as she jumped in surprise.

"Oh, hello, Leroy. You surprised me", Karen laughed, as she smiled at Leroy.

Leroy weakly smiled back and collected her book up off the grass, while he had a glance at the books title.

"Pride and prejudice by Jane Austen. You like old classics?" Leroy asked her, as he passed her book back to her.

"Yeah, I do I like them a lot. I think it's interesting learning the old language they had back then", Karen laughed, while blushing, as she stared down at her book and looked shock, "there's blood on my book!".

Karen looked at her own hands and arms and legs to check she wasn't bleeding, but then she grabbed Leroy's injured hand, and ignoring his weak protests she stared at the cut on his palm and bloodstained wrist.

"Oh no! How did this happen? Are you ok? Is your wrist cut?" Karen worried over his wound, as she used her sleeve to wipe the blood around the cut.

"Hey don't worry, Karen. It's just my palm that got cut. Don't look so worried the blood has stopped flowing now. I'm fine", Leroy uttered, while he struggled to pull his hand out of Karens grip.

"Don't worry, don't worry! You idiot we need to clean the wound and get it bandaged before it gets infected", Karen cried and with amazing strength she forced Leroy to walk with her, as they headed back to their street.

When Karen started to drag him to her front door Leroy started to complain and in the end they went into his house.

She hurried him into the kitchen and cradling his injured hand under the sink tap she washed the blood off with cold water. The cut looked deep and the cold water had stung his hand.

Karen started to look into the cardboard boxes, until she found a first aid kit. She pushed Leroy down onto the kitchen chair, at the table and started to bandage up his injured hand.

For some weird reason, as Leroy watched Karen being gentle, as she cradled his hand and bandaged it up he felt the sudden urge to cry.

He forced himself to not be so pathetic and expected due today he was just feeling emotional.

"There we go. All finished", Karen replied with a smile.

"Thanks", Leroy muttered, as he flexed his hand, which made him feel how tight the bandaged was around his hand.

Karen and Leroy both went out of the kitchen and Leroy led Karen to the living room.

It wasn't until they had walked through the threshold when he realised too late that it was a mess, due to his temper.

Leroy looked at Karen, while she looked at the smashed up lamp, overturned coffee table and the blood stained dents and marks on the cream coloured walls.

She turned to look at Leroy.

"If you want I will help you clean up before your family get home?".

"You don't have to and its only me and my dad", Leroy shrugged his shoulder, as he sat down on the sofa.

"It's no trouble and oh", Karen shyly replied, as she started to collect the broken bits of the lamp. Leroy got up off the sofa and fetched a dustpan and brush and helped Karen clean up the room before his dad came home.
