Chp. 20 - Little Saviors

Draco's POV

I sat in the room, sobbing my heart out. I held my children as close as possible. How was I supposed to do this. Raise two kids and work, and be a good father? What if I'm a terrible father, but I don't realise it because my beautiful Hermione isn't here to tell me off!?

The babies still cried with me, not stopping since their mother's death. I can hardly bear my own pain, and now I must care and bare theirs. Standing up I walked over to the bed and sat on the side. She looked so peaceful, as if only asleep. She was still a little pink and warm.

My little babies cried harder and turned their heads toward her body, stretching their tiny fingers toward her as if they didn't want to let go. But they were less than an hour old, I'm probably making this up in my head. Ginny walked in. Her eyes red and puffy. She looked towards my children and began crying again as she watched them.

"They're reaching for her. They wanna touch her skin. Here do this." She walked over and took Hermione's hand and placed it between the two babies.

To my shock, they each gripped one of her fingers, their tiny knuckles turning white. I gasped at movement. Suddenly they started to omit a glow, their auras intertwining, with mine, and Hermione's.

They had stopped crying now. I watched as the gave light and life back into Hermione's aura. I had never seen one before, not even my own. Her aura grew brighter and brighter, until it built up into a sudden burst of fantastic white light.

I blinked several times after the light. When I looked up again, I saw Hermione's chest begin to rise and fall rapidly. Her colour, which had faded, began to return to her cheeks, and her eyes began to flutter open.

I reached forward for her other hand desperately.

"Hermione? Can you hear me?" I squeezed her hand gently. She squeezed back.

"I'll go get a healer!" Ginny shouted before running from the room. I'd forgotten she was behind me.

Turning my attention back to Hermione, I saw she had opened her eyes and was staring at her children.

"They...they saved me. You brought me back", she croaked, as she tried to heave herself upwards.

"Hermione. I thought I'd lost you forever!" I leaned forward, as she opened her arms wide and hugged both me and the babies.

We sat there for an unmeasurable amount of time. I wished and hoped with all I had that this was not a dream. That our children did just saved her.

Ginny burst back in the door, tears streaming down her face, closely followed by Harry.

"Hermione!" she ran forward and joined our hug, as did Harry.

"I think we all need to step back and give Ms. Granger room to breathe." A healer walked in, with a look of pure amazement on his face. He walked over as I stood up and stepped back with Harry and Ginny.

"Can I hold one?" Hermione reached forward as I handed her, our little boy.

"They look like you, you know", she commented a smile plastered on her face.

"I'd beg to differ." I whispered, still shocked with what these two little persons had achieved!

Both babies were fast asleep, breathing softly. I marvelled out their strength and power, and how it could all fit in such a tiny little, fragile and delicate body. I gazed at my little girl, tears began to stream down my face again, but this time for joy. I will always remember this, never forgetting what they'd done for me and their mother.

"Thank you Draco, for saving me." I looked up at Hermione, shocked.

"But it was all them, I did nothing!"

"No you did do something. They didn't have enough raw magic of their own, so they had to mingle it with yours. I think because that spell I found, and you cast to keep me safe, had bound our auras, they knew that a part of them was slipping away. We are bond by more than blood and love. We are bound by magic too." Hermione smiled at her children, completely in awe of what magic could do. Her deductions made sense of course and made me smile too. Harry and Ginny nodded along with the healer too.

Hermione looked wrecked though. She had been stabbed, given birth to twins and came back to life in one day. That is something no one else in the world could boast!

"I think Hermione needs to rest. A lot has happened today." The healer spoke my thoughts and guided Harry and Ginny from the room. "We'll run some tests in the morning, after you've had some rest," Hermione and I nodded at the man, before turning back to my fiancee.

"You must be exhausted." I smiled at her as I took our little boy from her and held the two of them again. "You've been through a lot today and the last few weeks. Are you okay?"

"I am, and I'll be fine. I just want to enjoy the fact that I have a beautiful new family tonight, and think over all that has happened tomorrow. I should be getting some sleep, but first, baby names! We can't keep calling them 'the babies', you know." She smiled weakly, her tiredness showing through.

"Oh yeah. What had you in mind?" I grinned at her. Glad I didn't have to do this alone

We discussed the matter for a long while before finally deciding on what we should call them. And as soon as the names were settled, Hermione fell asleep and I beside her in the magically extended bed, our two beautiful children in between us.
