Chapter 10
"Marcel, wha..wha..what happened?" I ask him with concern clear in my voice. The principal pulled the unknown man into his office, completely oblivious of my existence.
"That is the dick I put in the hospital last year," he says calmly, although he isn't using that squeaky annoying voice anymore. "Somehow, everyone back home found out where I was and that I was disguised as a nerd. He declared he wanted revenge. I wasn't going to fight him back until.." He just stops speaking mid-sentence and tears up.
"Until what, Marcel? What did he do?" I push for an explanation.
"Someone in the hallway mentioned me having a girlfriend. I remembered his words exactly 'I am going to do exactly what I did with Melody. I'll force her to cheat on you. And then I will make sure she wishes she never met you.' And after that, he punched me square in the jaw. I returned the favor a few times before we were pulled off each other by a few teachers. I hadn't notice the large crowd surrounding us until then either. They told me that I could choose one witness for myself. And I chose you."
I stroke his bruised cheek, "I am so sorry babe. But why did you ask for me to be the witness? I didn't even really witness anything."
He smiles at me "Because I wanted to be the one to tell you what happened. I didn't want you to find out from anyone else." He sighs before adding, "And I missed you."
After spending the entire day in the principal's office, we were let go. Harry had to tell the administration who he really was, and they scolded him for lying. But, they promised to keep his other life a secret from the teachers and students considering the circumstances. Next week on Tuesday after school, we have to go to court. The principal assured us that the jury and judge would most likely side with us, even knowing Harry's past. It was a long and stressful day at school.
They let us go ten minutes before the bell rang, apologizing for the long day of interrogation. Harry and I head to my locker. While moving things around I say quietly, "I would never cheat on you with him anyways."
He chuckled, "Better not."
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That night, I actually had to go home. It was Mum's birthday. And despite our differences and everything, I have to at least spend her birthday with her. Harry drove me home and Mum's car was not there yet. "You sure you'll be okay alone?"
I nod, "I will be fine Harry. See you tomorrow?"
He nods and leans over the console in his car to give me a short kiss. My lips linger on his before we say our goodbyes and I get out of the car.
I haven't been home since yesterday morning, and the house is completely trashed. I walk into the dining room, finding broken glasses and plates everywhere. The entire place reeks of alcohol and there's a note on the table.
Gabriella,
I am so sorry I failed you as a mother. I am so sorry your dad left us when you were so young, but I can't change the past. I know once you read this, you will be absolutely furious with me, but it is for the better. You and I, we can't have a conversation with each other without blowing up. And that is not how mother and daughter should act. I love you sweetie, but I made a mistake becoming a mom. I obviously am not fit for the job.
I lied to you about why your father left us when you were a baby. I told you he was a drunk and left on his own will. But it was my fault. He was a sweet man, but I couldn't stay attatched to one person for the rest of my life. You know how I like to have fun. Just look at the mess I left you. He left because I made him, and he wanted to take you with him. But at the time, I thought I was fit to be a mother. I thought that if I could handle the pain when I gave birth, I could handle anything. But I was so wrong. I should have let him take you. If you would like to contact him, his phone number is on the back of this note. I know you don't know him at all, but maybe you guys will have some kind of fatherly daughter bond.
Before I forget, by the time you are reading this, I am probably on a plane or in Italy already. I can't be a mother anymore and you know that. Don't forget me. I love you sweetie. I also left you $50,000 cash somewhere in the house. If you want to, you could look for it. I'll miss you. Goodbye.
Love,
Mum
I cannot believe it. My entire life has been a lie. The only reason I never even tried to contact my father was because I thought he was more of a horrible human being than my mother. I was wrong.
I look back down at the note, rereading it over and over again. I turned the note over to see a number scrawled across the back. I was in no state to call my father, but I put his number in my phone and saved the contact.
I got up and walked to Mum's-no wait now it's mine- liquor cabinet. I grab the bottle of vodka, and I just chug. Everything after that is a blur.
-HARRY/MARCEL'S POV-
It has been three hours since I dropped Gabby off at her house and I haven't even received a text from her. So I pull out my phone and decide to ring her.
"Herllooooooooo Harreh" he slurs through the phone.
"Gabby are you drunk?" I ask sternly.
"Drunk? What no! I never do drinkiiiiing. It's bad for you peener," she laughs obnoxiously.
"Peener?" I try hard to contain my laughter.
"Nerp. I meant to say your weeeeeiner! Harreh can I cum over?" she hiccups.
I groan, grabbing my keys off the rack while answering her, "Yes. Stay where you are. I am on my way."
She giggles hysterically, "Okiee dokiee. Bye bye poopy face."
Did she really just call me "poopy face"?
(A/N: Okay I can't begin to say how much I love you all so much. What should Harry and Gabby's ship name be? Vote, comment, and read on!)
