Cole and I were driving back to school. The radio was turned off, and he didn't have the heat on. We were driving down a winding road, just coming back from the mountains. We were still upset with each other. Or at least, he was still upset with me. My anger died down a while ago. Cole had one hand on the steering wheel and the other combing through his hair. His hair was different than it normally is. It was kind of all over the place... but in a really sexy way. Oh my god what is wrong with me?! I took a deep breath, "Cole?" I said. "Yes?" He answered. Why did I call him? Did I just want to say his name? Make small talk! Quick! "Uh... what is Cole short for? Colby or something?" I asked. Cole cast me a side glance, then ignored me. I could tell he was mad at me, obviously. I fell silent. I glanced at him. The way he was clutching onto the steering wheel made his knuckles turn white. I inhaled through my nose, "I'm sorry... Cole." I apologized. He looked at me and raised an eyebrow, "For what?" He asked. "I'm sorry for accusing you... of rape and attempted murder," I said. I saw his eyes squint, "Okay..." He said, not really accepting my apology. "That was supposed to come out a lot better than that, but you know what I'm trying to say, right?" I said. Cole hummed, showing that he heard me. "And I'm really sorry for punching you," I said. He nodded slowly. "And I really don't hate you. I was just mad. I say a lot of stupid stuff when I'm mad." I added. Cole looked back at the road. "And--" I started.

"I forgive you." Cole interrupted.

"You do?" I asked.

"Yes..." He said. "I wasn't even finished," I said. "You don't have to." Cole sighed. "Oh... but I just wanted to say that I'm sorry," I said. "And I forgive you." He said in a low voice. I nodded and stopped talking. Cole already said he was sorry so there is really no point in him apologizing. Then, "Can I turn the heat on?" I asked, seeing my breath even though we were in the car. Cole turned it on for me, putting it as high as it would go. Cold air blasted out first. I felt tension in the car, mostly from Cole. "Are you still mad?" I asked. "No." He said, annoyed. "You sound like you're--" I began. Cole turned on the radio and turned it up loudly. "Are you kidding me?" I demanded. I turned the volume on the radio all the way down. He glared at me, "I don't want to talk to you right now!"

"I said I was sorry, why are you still mad?"

"That kind of stuff is really hard to forgive." He mimicked me.

"Okay... What?!" I asked, confused.

"I'm not in the mood to talk, just leave me alone."

"But Cole--"

Cole's phone vibrated. I picked it up, being nosy. He snatched it straight out of my hands, "Don't touch my stuff." He snapped. Cole's phone vibrated again; he was getting a call. He answered it, "What do you want?" It sounded like more of a statement than a question. There was a pause. "First of all she's not my girlfriend! And second of all, how did you know--" He got cut off by him. "Is that the guy?" I whispered. Cole nodded. I snatched the phone back. The car swerved because Cole took his hands off the wheel, trying to get his phone back. "Drive!" I snapped. Cole put his hands back on the steering wheel mumbling, "I swear, wait 'til I get out of this car..." I ignored that and answered the phone,

"Hi, this is Cole's girlfriend speaking," I said sarcastically. I heard the man laugh, "Funny." Cole scowled at me.

 "Who is this?" I asked.

"Demitri. You must be Alaina." He said.

"Smart cookie," I said, bored.

"Yes...do me a favor and tell Colton to meet me at the dock at 9:00 pm tonight," Demitri said.

"Yeah, there is a problem with that. Cole's not meeting you anywhere and you can't threaten him anymore." I said bravely. "Is that so?" His voice sounded humorous, which made me pissed. "Absolutely. Cole doesn't really give a shit about me, so you're gonna have to try a lot harder than a simple hostage threat." I shrugged.
