"Chloe, why don't you sit up front with me? You look more awake." Aunt Ellie offered as we all piled inside. That left Aleksey, Miranda, me, and Viktor in the back...in that order.
I was so tired and struggled to keep my eyes open. The lull of Viktor's cologne and the warmth of his coat eventually brought me to sleep. The click of a turn signal woke me up and I realized I was leaning on Viktor, my head on his shoulder. His arms were crossed and he showed no sign of having tried to move me. As much as I wanted to nuzzle into his shoulder and fall back asleep the conscious part of me realized how awkward it was.
I sat up and rubbed under my eyes, careful not to smear eyeliner across my face. Miranda was barely awake, but the boys showed no sign of being tired. How do they do it? Why do they have to be so tough?
Uncle Dimitri glanced at the mirror and Viktor shifted uncomfortably. The car came to a stop and we all got out. Aunt Ellie led us to our room and I sat on the edge of my bed, waiting for my bags to be brought up. It was four in the morning.
I slid my socked feet against the hardwood floors to keep myself from falling asleep and stared at the baby blue walls. Everything was white and blue, all except for the floors. It was very soothing. Even though the house was a larger-than-life mansion in the middle of the woods I felt right at home. It was so quiet though.
I suddenly remembered I was supposed to call my mom and dug around in my pockets until I found my phone. I pressed three and waited for my mom to pick up.
"Safe and sound in Russia?" She asked as she picked up the phone.
"Yeah...I'm really tired though." I told her.
"I bet; it's four in the morning there isn't it?" It was good to hear her voice.
"Yeah, I fell asleep on Viktor in the car." I told her without thinking. I was too tired to tell a story.
"Viktor?" I could already hear the skepticism in her voice.
"Yeah, he lives here. Well, I'm really tired, so I'm gonna go." I told her before yawning. We said our goodbyes and I kicked off my fuzzy, wet boots.
Viktor walked in carrying all my bags at once and set them down against the wall. Leaving the door open he left and came back a minute later with a glass of water, which it on the nightstand.
"Do you want your coat back?" I asked him, hoping he would sat he didn't.
"The heating in here isn't very good. You'll need it." He said and then left the room. Once the door closed behind him I quickly changed into my pajamas and pulled the coat back on before flipping the light switch. I felt my way to the bed and curled up in it, finally allowing myself to enjoy the intoxicating scent of Viktor's coat.
