Here. Go to that room and fall asleep. That was all Queen Elbereth said before ushering her to a large bed and tucking her in. Then she left. Elizabeth thought that sounded more like an order than a suggestion. She heard snatches of a conversation a few rooms away, and tried to eavesdrop. But she was tired after the day's events, and sleep soon enveloped her in it's warm arms.
Elizabeth woke to the feeling of sharp claws on her chest. It wasn't nice. She opened her eyes, only to stare into a large amber one. It had a long snout, with sharp yellowish teeth, and a black nose. It was the face of a wolf. Elizabeth bit her lip to keep herself from crying out in terror. It lept off her, and she could see it clearly. It was a mangy white wolf, whose fur was dirty and ragged, falling out in places, where it revealed pink, scabby skin. It had many scars riddling it's body, and one eye was gone, replaced by a long, green scar. It looked curious.Elizabeth backed away in horror, stricken with repulsion and fear.
It sat down, tail swishing back and forth. That large amber eye locked with hers, and it's gaze so intense that she thought it could see right through her. Then, it spoke in a dry, rough voice. "You came back from the dead." It wasn't a question. She nodded dumbly. "You-you can t-talk ?" she mumbled in disbelief. "Come with me. The fairies are going to kill you." Elizabeth gasped.
Elizabeth shook her head, torn between this newfound kindness and comfort that the fairy queen had given her, and the strange talking wolf that told her that the fairies wanted to kill her. " I...I like it here.'' she told the wolf. The wolf snarled, and growled, "Come with me, elf, or you'll regret it.'' He punctuated his words with a menacing howl. Elizabeth, thinking that the wolf was going to tear her to bits if she disagreed, nodded dumbly and followed him out of the window.
Once out in the open, the wolf roughly tossed her onto his back, ignoring her protests, and together, the odd pair, elf and wolf, raced off into the dark dangerous forest.
