"Okay, I hereby adjourn this meeting!" I bang the folded morning paper on the table as a desperate attempt to get everybody's attention. A useless attempt, I might add. Before I could open my mouth in a much more aggressive attempt, my dearie brother beat me to.
"Guys! stop what you're doing and listen!" Ahmed called out, his voice was naturally deep and loud so he didn't need to put in much effort as I would have had to. I shot him a grateful look, sending a mental thank you to him. To which he smiled and nodded, replying with a you're most welcome, I always got your back. Yup, my twin brother and I were awesome like that, being able to send mind messages and all.
"Okay, we have a month to go, give or take a few days, before the big day." I said gesturing to Sanaa. "So what we need, is an extremely well organised systematic body of people, AKA us, to make sure that everything gets done on time and perfectly. Because we definitely do not want any last minute rushing about." I said in a very business like way. I felt like a project manager on the apprentice.
"Oh come on! It's just a wedding! How much work could there possibly be?" My brother asked in an exasperated voice.
All I had to do was send him a look and smile that said, oh you have no idea!
"lets run through this one more time," i called across the table, an hour later, rifling through my papers. "mummy, you're in charge of setting the menu for the week, and ensuring that the chefs are doing everything on point."
"Yes Ma'am" she smiled at me, to which i smiled back.
"Papa, you're in charge of making sure that the guests are comfortable and have all that they need. this on is definitely a tough one, but i am certain you will be ale to see this through." i looked at him, trying hard to maintain my serious face.
"im honoured at your confidence in me, i will not let you down." My dad said, very much succeeding at his serious face.
"Ahmed, youre in charge of the decorations and you will be the errand boy." i said skimming hrough my papers for his role.
"the errand boy? no, nu uh, i donot like the sound of that. makes me think that ill be getting bossed around alot!" he said furiously shaking his head and crossing his arms.
"well you thought right brother dearest," i smirked at him, "And the majority of the bossing will be coming from me." i said giving him my winning smile, to which he responded extremely immaturely by sticking his tongue out at me.
"Sanaa, you are the bride, so obviously no allocated work as such" i said squeezing her hand. "you'll just have to enjoy all the attention and pampering that will come your way."
"fine by me." she said with a teasing smile in my direction. "but seriously, you guys, i dont want you all to just be working the whole time, i want you to enjoy it as well." she added looking at us with a worried expression.
"sweetheart," my mum said taking her hand in hers, "this is your wedding, we will definitely enjoy it, dont worry, but even if it was a small wedding there still would be all this work because of all the guests coming InshAllah, which is a good thing. Guests bring alot of Barqah. and besides wedding work is so much fun, it brings the whole family together."
"and with your sister's excellent organizational skills, all this work will be done within no time." my dad finished, referring to me.
"Wait a second!" Ahmed said, a look of realisation dawning on his face. Uh Oh! i had hoped he wouldn't notice. "you have allocated jobs for all of us, but what about you? whats your job missy?" yup he noticed! think fast Hanna.
"Ahmeddd" i said his name stretching the end. "of course i have a job" i said rolling my eyes, pretending that's the most dumbest thing he could have said.
"Okay, so lets hear it" he said looking straight in my eye, silently challenging me.
"i am the over-looker" i blurted out. well done Hanna, i mentally gave myself a hi five. "That means, i over see all that is happening, and fill in on all that has not been getting done." i smirked at him.
"quick thinking. you're lucky!" he said sticking his tongue out at me.
"Kids!" Sanaa said shaking her head pretending to be disappointed making us all burst out laughing.
i couldn't wait for the next few weeks to come. things were going to get so exciting!
