I Can't Keep a Secret

Chapter 3

Chapter 3 <Maddie's Point of View>

Josh bites his lip and winks at me.  I practically die.  Was this really happening, or is this a dream?  I smile the best I can back and he smiles too. 

"Madddddieeee," Chloe says, waving her hand in front of my face.

"What?" I say dreamily.

"Are you in a trance or something?"

"Sorta."  I lean in close and whisper in Chloe's ear, "Josh just winked, bit his lip, and smiled at me!"

Chloe gives me the "someone's got the lovebug" look.  "Ooh, Maddie," Chloe says with a smirk.

"Shh!" I hiss, staring at Josh.  "He might hear you!"

Chloe keeps the smirk on her face.  I roll my eyes and unlock my iPhone.  Surprisingly, I see a text from an unknown number:

Hey Maddie, it's Josh Hyland.

My heart stops.  He actually texted me!  I show Chloe and she smirks even bigger.  I text back:

Hey Josh!  Um, if you don't mind, how did you get my number?  (not that I don't want it ;D)

Josh looks at me and winks again.  I do the same.  It feels odd, having Chloe in between us, but we make a way I guess.  My phone buzzes again and I look at the text.

You told me it on Instagram a while ago hahaha, you're cute, and hot.  ;)

I die again.  Chloe reads the text from over my shoulder, her smirk now practically reaching from the top of her face.  I laugh and elbow her playfully.  My mind searches for something to reply with.  Finally, I decide to say:

Thanks.  You're not too bad yourself.  :)

One goal is already accomplished, and we haven't even gotten to the school yet.

Chloe and I get off the bus, then start walking into the school.

"I'm SO excited!" I squeal, looking at the huge school.

"Same!" Chloe says, her eyes huge.

All of a sudden, a hand touches my shoulder.  I stop and turn around.  It's Josh.

"Hey, Maddie," Josh says, his white smile spreading across his face.

"H-hi Josh," I say, smiling weakly.

"Um, Maddie, I was wondering," Josh says, putting his hand through his dirty blonde hair.  "Do you wanna go out with me?"

My heart stops.  I smile wide and say, "Of course!"

Josh smiles big.  "Really?"

"Really!"

"Ok, cool!"

I giggled and turn back to Chloe.  She's smirking again.

"Hey, Josh," I say, pulling Chloe over to him.  "I want you to meet my best friend, Chloe Lukasiak.  Chloe, this is Josh Hyland."

"Hi Chloe," Josh says, then shakes her hand.

"Hello Josh," Chloe says, then gives me a quick smirk.  I roll my eyes.

"Let's walk into the school together," I say, then grab Josh's hand.  He blushes, then him, Chloe, and I all walk into the school.  Anxiety pricks at me as we enter the huge building.  I thought it would be an amazing experience, but in reality, it would be a place full of lies, secrets, and broken promises.
