Ch. 6-Nothing Lasts Forever

One Week Later

Calum, clearly hung over, says goodbye to a girl. He pulls her close and whispers in her ear. She smiles and walks out the door. Michael sees this as hes walking down the stairs, he goes into the kitchen and begins making some food. Calum sits at the bar, wincing at the sound of the cabinets closing and opening. "Really, Calum? Another girl?" Michael says aggressively. "Yea...so what?" Calum replies. "Look, dude, you're out of hand" Michael sighs then takes a drink of water and places a plate of food in the microwave. "Why is it any of your business?" Calum raises his voice. "I don't want to be a dick but you need to leave. Violet and Ashton are coming home today and I don't need anymore drama around here. Plus you've been partying in MY house for a week. I want you gone within the hour." The microwave beeps and Michael turns away from Calum, slamming the door shut. Calum gets heated and starts yelling "You're taking sides and that's not fair Michael. You're supposed to be my fucking friend." Luke walks out of his room, half dressed. "What's with all this yelling?" he asks groggily. Michael slams his plate onto the counter "Calum is out of hand and Violet is coming back with Ashton today. You're out of hand too, Luke. I want you guys to clean up your mess and I want you out, Calum." Calum stands up "Who are you? Her new best friend?" he says angrily. Michael glares at him "I'm being a better friend than you are. Get the fuck out of my house" 

Luke sets his head in his hands "Come on Calum I'll take you home." Luke gets dressed and Calum grabs some things and they leave the house, leaving Michael to clean up the mess.

Violet and Ashton get home and Ashton carries their bags inside. They walk in to Michael cleaning the house, the floor is strewn with cups and trash. "Who forgot to invite us to the party?" Violet asks, sarcastically. "I'm not in the mood Violet" he says. Violet shrugs and heads upstairs to the bathroom to shower. Ashton soon walks in and looks around, confused. He goes up to his room and sets their things down on the bed. He heads back downstairs and approaches Michael, "What happened here?" he jokes. Michael shoves more trash into a bag "Help me and I'll tell you."

Ashton grabs a trash bag and begins cleaning. "Calum and Luke hung out here for a bit. Calum was trashed every night, sleeping around, and he made this mess. I don't know why I let it go on for so long but I did." Michael sighs and ties the trash bag shut, and sets it next to the other full one on the floor. "Wow..." Ashton didn't know what to say, he finished cleaning up the last of the mess. "Yea. I pretty much kicked him out. I told him I was done with his shit and wanted him out before you and Violet got home." They both hear the shower go off upstairs. "Violet doesn't need to know" he says to Ashton. Ashton nods "Thank you" he says softly. They do a weird half-hug and after a few minutes Ashton go upstairs to find Violet on the phone, half dressed, with no pants on. 

"Yea. Yea I miss you too, mom. A lot has been going on. I know bu-" she goes quiet and Ashton can hear inaudible chatter from the phone. Violet smiles at him and holds up a finger, "Yes Mom. Okay. Yea okay I love you too. How's six? Yea alright. Okay yea. Love you" she hangs up the phone. Ashton pulls her dress out of the closet from the party, it's clean, and he hands it to her. "My mom wants to meet you" she says. She takes the dress and changes into it quickly. "Really? That's awesome" Ashton says smiling. Violet walks over to him and holds up her hair so he can zip her dress. "Yea we're gonna go to her house for dinner...is that cool?" he zips up her dress. "Yea I'm good with that" he turns her around and kisses her forehead. "Go shower and get dressed" she says softly, she leaves the room and goes downstairs. 

Michael is playing video games so she sits down next to him "Hey, can I join you?" she asks. Michael tosses her the second controller and they start shooting zombies. "Do you wanna hang out today? Ashton, you and I?" she says in between loud gunshots. "Maybe Luke can come too" she adds. The complete the level and Michael pauses the game. "Yea, Luke is busy but I'm down with hanging out." Violet smiles "It won't be long because my mom is meeting Ashton today, but I still want to hang out." Michael laughs "Ooh big step, meeting the mom" he jokes. Violet blushes "I'm nervous" she says. Ashton come down the stairs and walks over to them "What's going on" he asks, sitting down with Violet. "I guess we're hanging out for a bit before you guys go to dinner" Michael says. They end up just talking about the beach trip and playing video games. At 6 Violet and Ashton leave, and head to her mother's house. 

Violet, in her pretty dress, and Ashton in a button up, pulls up to her mom's drive way. They get out and walk up to the door. Violet hugs Ashton and then links her hand with his, and knocks on the door. Violets mom answers the door and greets them happily, pulling Violet into a tight hug. They walk inside and Violet introduces them. "Mom, this is Ashton. Ashton, this is my mom, Rose" they hug awkwardly but her mother is warm and cheerful. "It's very nice to meet you Ashton. What a handsome kid you are" Ashton's face goes slightly red. "Nice to meet you too, Rose. Dinner smells amazing" he replies. They take off their shoes at the door and go into the kitchen, Ashton sits down and Violet sets the table. Her mom continues to cook and Violet sits at the table next to Ashton. Her mom serves them and diner is filled with small talk. They talk about how Violet and Ashton met and their beach trip. They finish up dinner and move to the living room. 

The entire dinner Violet's mom didn't mention Calum, which she found strange. Violet knew her mom loved Calum and was surprised she hadn't asked about him. Violet was snug in Ashton's arms on the couch. "Honey, I have something for you" her mom says. She walks into her room, and comes back with a box. "I don't know if I should ask what happened, but Calum came over. He dropped this box of your stuff off." Violet's face drops and she gets stiff "Thanks mom. Yea, we got in a fight and I think it's time to call it on our friendship." Violet's mom was confused but avoided question. Violet vaguely explained the situation, Ashton held her hand during the story. After a while Violet decided it as time to go. "Thank you mom" she hugged her mom tight and walked out the door. Ashton and her mom hugged also and her mom said "Please take care of her" quietly. "I plan on it, don't worry" he says. 

Violet and Ashton get in the car and Ashton begins driving home. "I think I want to go to my apartment tonight, if that's okay" Violet says quietly. Ashton changes the route and she directs him to her apartment. "Violet...Are you okay? That was rough..." Ashton asks hesitantly. "Yea. I needed my stuff back anyways" she says cheerfully. They pull up to her apartment and she walks up to her unit, unlocking the door hastily with Ashton right behind her. When she walks in she sees blankets strewn across the couch and sees a picture of her and Calum at Disney sitting on the couch-side table. Anger fills her and she stomps off to her bedroom. In her bedroom she finds Calum's clothes and she loses it. She starts throwing his clothes on the ground and clearing out the dresser drawer he used. She throws pictures of them on floor and begins crying. She sits on the couch and throws the picture of them at Disney across the room. Ashton begs her to calm down and she just cries. He pulls her into his arms, and she keeps repeating "fuck him" over and over again. She cries until she falls asleep. Ashton pulls a blanket over her and cleans up all the broken glass and takes Calum's thing out of the apartment and into his car. He comes back up to her apartment, locks the door, and carries Violet to bed. He falls asleep fully dressed next to her in bed.
