"Maybe one day we'll find that place where you and I could be together, and we'll catch our dreams within the waves of change. So smile for me one last time, and believe that we'll meet again. Until then, I'll be missing you." – R. M. Drake.
Prologue
Raekah
Before
RAEKAH HAD TO ADMIT, she was nervous. Really, really nervous. Those were big news, the kind of news that change your life forever, especially theirs. After all, he was going to become the alpha of a very important pack, and she was going to become the Supreme of her coven, which was filled with some of the most powerful witches.
She didn't know what to expect as she walked down the street towards the restaurant where they ate breakfast every Sunday. She looked around, and saw what a beautiful day it was. Maybe, she thought, it was a sign; the way of the universe of telling her everything would work out.
How would he react? She wondered. What would he say? Maybe, in the best case scenario, he would smile, and hug her, and kiss her, and tell her everything would be just fine. He would ask her to be his wife, his Luna, and they would raise their child together. She smiled at the thought.
But then another thought crossed her mind, a bitter one. He had a mate out there. A soul mate, someone made for him, and for him only. Someone he was meant to be with, and no matter how badly she tried, she couldn't compete with that.
The thought made her heart break a little. She scolded herself. Stupid, stupid girl. Since the beginning, he had warned her about how he wouldn't be able to love her, but she just laughed. She saw him as just a distraction, a hobby, something to keep her entertained for the summer. She was convinced that it was impossible for her to fall for him, but somewhere along the way, she did.
Now she would end up with a broken heart. And a baby, she reminded herself, a broken heart and a baby.
She finally reached the restaurant, and her heart skipped a beat. It was time to tell him. It was time for him to break her heart.
"You can do this." She whispered. "You will do this."
She stepped inside the place, and looked around for him. She spotted him, and her heart broke into a million pieces. He was standing beside their usual table, and he was holding a woman in his arms. He said something in her ear, one word, and Raekah didn't hear it, but she knew what it was. Mate. He had found his mate.
It took a moment for realization to kick in, and when it did, Raekah's head started spinning. He had found his mate, and now she didn't even stand a chance.
"He will take my baby away from me." Raekah thought. "He will take the baby to his pack, and he will raise him with this woman."
No. She couldn't let that happen. She wouldn't let that happen. It was her baby, and nobody, not even the father, would take him or her away. In just a second, she had made up her mind. She wouldn't tell him. She would run away from him to somewhere he wouldn't find the baby.
Being too caught up with his newly found mate, he hadn't seen Raekah yet, so she just walked quickly out of there. Her heart broke a little, but she knew it was the right thing to do. She rubbed her belly gently, her broken heart healing a little. "Everything will be okay, baby." She whispered. "Mom is here."
