Kade

After

EMMETT WAS ANGRY LIKE NEVER BEFORE. He growled loudly, wanting to burn the house down to the ground, and then find the witch to rip her throat out. Kade was having trouble controlling him, just because he wanted to do exactly the same thing, but deep down he knew that if he wanted to find his mate he had to get his anger out of the way, and think clearly. It also occurred to him that his mate wouldn't be really happy if he killed her mother.

Kade took a look at the wooden house in front of him. It was big and old, with big windows covered by equally old, deteriorated curtains. An idea popped in his head.

He walked inside the house, first entering the living room. He looked around. It was barely furnished, with only a big sofa and a table. An old T.V., the ones that looked like metallic boxes, was placed on the table. Big, brown boxes were spread everywhere. He looked at them closely. Each one was labeled differently; T.V., movies, cushions... Nothing that would help him find his mate.

He then went into the kitchen, which was also filled with boxes. "They just moved in." His wolf said. "That's why we had never seen her before."

Kade nodded, and looked to the boxes; cutlery, dishes, cupcakes... Nothing that would help him either. He shook his head, and sniffed the air around him. He caught two weak scents; Rae's and his mate's. They were barely noticeable.

He followed Isla's scent, a hypnotic combination of cinnamon bark oil, orange blossom flower, and wood oil. He went up some wooden stairs, and followed the scent to a brown door. He opened it.

His mate's scent was stronger there. His wolf sighed happily, his rage from before decreasing. This room was completely different from both the living room, and the kitchen. The walls were a deep purple, and it was completely furnished; it had a bed, a nightstand, a big bureau, a book case, a desk with its chair...

The bookcase was filled with lots of books and CDs of all shapes, colors, and sizes. There were probably more than a hundred of them. On the desk there were lots of pencils, pens, and notebooks.

He opened one of the bureau's drawers, and was pleased to find his mate's underwear; bras and panties of all kinds. He smiled cheekily when he saw there were some black, lacey things in there. "Naughty Isla." He thought, but then it occurred to him that she must have bought them for some other guy, someone special, and he growled with jealousy. He closed the drawer.

Kade looked at the the nightstand, and saw three books piled over it. He took them and looked at the titles. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The Great Gatsby. Lolita. Kade was surprised, The Great Gatsby was one of his favorite books. "So we have a few things in common." He thought.

He grabbed it and flipped the pages carelessly. He stopped at a random page, and noticed that some of the words were highlighted. "The loneliest moment in someone's life is when they are watching their whole world fall apart, and all they can do is stare blankly." He read, his voice almost a whisper.

Touched, he placed the book down, and opened one of the nightstand's drawers. There were two notebooks. He took them out, and analyzed them.

The first one was thick. It had black covers, and with golden letters it said DIARY. Kade was stunned. He had found his mate's journal. At first, he was curious. He wanted to open it, and read every single page. To learn his mate's secret thoughts and feelings. He contained himself. It didn't feel right, not without his mate's approval.

He was torn between reading it, and dropping it, so he decided to look at the other notebook. If he had thought the first one was thick, this was even thicker. He opened it. It was a sketchbook, filled with drawings of all kinds of things. He flipped through the pages. Some were black&white, some where in color. Some were made with pencil, some with paint, some with markers... They were beautiful.

Before he could take a closer look at any of them, a voice interrupted him. "Alpha." His Beta, Tom, called him through their mind-link. Kade sighed, frustrated.

"What now, Tom?" He spat. "I'm a little busy right now."

"I know, Kade, but this is important." Tom was one of the few people Kade allowed to call him by his name."There has been a little..." His Beta hesitated. "Issue."

"An issue?" Kade asked irritated. He hated going back and forth, he liked going straight to the point. "What kind of issue?"

Tom was silent for a moment. "It happened again, Alpha. They attacked one of the outer packs."

"And why the hell did nobody call me?" Kade breathed roughly. He growled. Tom stayed silent. "How bad was it?"

"They burned the whole village to the ground." Tom said. "A few survivors, all of them taken as prisoners. Well, all except one."

Kade growled. Those Native Raven bastards, always trying to take what was his. "All of them except one." He repeated. "Take him to Sundown, I'll question him when I'm done here." Tom nodded through the mind-link.

"Alpha, there's something else." Tom said proudly. Kade waited for him to continue. "We caught one of them."

"Good." Kade said, not impressed at all.

"No, you don't understand. We caught his son, Kade." Tom said, excited. "We caught Cooper."

Kade smirked. Now he was proud. "Well done, Beta." He said in a voice filled with evil. "I'll be there soon, to welcome him in person."

Kade closed the mind-link, and focused once again in the notebooks he was holding. He would examine them later, when he was done with his new prisoner. He had to go, but he couldn't leave the house alone without any sort of protection. "The witch might come back." He thought.

He stood up, notebooks in hand. "Beta." he mind-linked Tom again.

"Yes, Alpha?" He answered.

"I need you to send two or three guards to where I am. Good ones."

"Where are you?"

"I'm far from Sundown. In an old house about thirty minutes South from Greenville." Kade answered. "Drive here with them in a separate car. Also, bring me some clothes."

"Yes, Alpha." He closed the mind-link again.

It would take his guards at least forty minutes to get to him, so all that was left to do was wait. Kade looked at the sketchbook, a faint smile appearing in his lips. He had the perfect distraction.
