Finn's POV
The familiar sandy beach backed by bright green pastures was on getting closer. My thoughts went to when I said goodbye to Jake. We both cried so much. I wondered what he would be doing now. Were the puppies all grown up? Would any recognise me? While I was busy daydreaming the ship crashed into the beach. I grabbed my backpack and set out towards the treehouse, a route I knew more than back of my hand. When I got to tree house had grown and the door was open. Out of habit I knocked before entering but there was no reply. "Jake! You home buddy?" I shouted. Still there was nothing, a thick layer of dust had formed over everything and there were spiderwebs everywhere. The loot was gone as was almost everything. Strange, did Jake move? I heard footsteps carefully approaching me from behind. By reflex I drew my sword. "Who's there?" I hissed,
"Finn? No way! Finn! Is that really you?" Princess Bubblegum questioned,
"PB? How's it going? Where's Jake?" I asked, PB jumped on me giving me a warm hug but pushed her away instinctively, "Ah sorry, I'm umm not used to people hugging me," I apologised.
"Finn! I can't believe it! You've really returned!" PB cried,
"Why're you cryin'? Anyway PB where is Jake?" I smiled,
"...I'm sorry Finn...J-Jake...he...Jake's no longer with us..." PB sobbed,
"...No way...That can't be...You're just joking right?" I panicked,
"...Finn..." PB put her hand on my arm,
"How did it happen?" I asked,
"He...He was attacked by a wizard. He was cursed. It happened three years ago." PB explained,
"Where is that wizard?" My hands trembled for the first time in ages,
"He escaped to Wizard City." PB answered,
"I see, going to get dark soon. You should probably go back to the castle." I spoke with a trembling voice,
"And what about you? I think you should stay at the castle. All of your stuff is there." PB smiled,
"Sorry PB, but I'm to visit Wizard City...to buy some supplies..." I replied,
"Finn..." PB said gripping my shirt. I left without saying a word to PB, I couldn't, I wasn't going to tell her that only one thought was on my mind. Just how many ways could I torture that wizard that killed Jake. When I got to Wizard City no matter where I looked or who I spoke to the evil wizard could not be found. Finally I spoke to the Wizard King, I found out that the wizard's name was Saxon the Curser and he escaped from a Wizard City prison a couple of months ago. I went to the candy castle to stay the night. My grand return was completely ruined.
I don't know how long passed since that time, a few week? a few months? I moved back into the treehouse however I don't spend much around there, too many memories of Jake. Lately I've been taking jobs from the notice boards in the Candy Kingdom and Wizard City, mainly just monster slaying or the collection ingredients. Occasionally I went to the City of Thieves and took up jobs from the notice board there. In my spare time I track that bastard that killed Jake. I felt like I was in the wastelands again. One day I got a letter from PB, she said that she had a lead on Saxon. I went to the Candy Kingdom from the treehouse. The candy people were so much small than I remembered. As I got closer to the castle I could hear PB arguing with Marceline. Marceline, huh? I wonder if she looks the same? What am I thinking? Of course she does. "Glob! I was ignoring you! If it was so important you could've just come to my house!" Marceline shouted,
"It is beyond important! Our friend needs our help and you couldn't even pick up your phone!" PB screamed,
"Trouble in paradise, ladies?" I asked knowing the conversation was about me,
"Finn? Wow you've gotten big huh?" Marceline smiled as she floated around me.
"I guess I have. So PB you said you had a lead?" I leant against the castle wall,
"More than a lead actually, Finn, he was spotted in supermarket here in the Candy Kingdom. I had the banana guards surround it but he manage to take hostages. We're currently in a standoff with him." PB explained,
"You haven't moved in?" I frowned,
"No, we need to ensure the safety of the candy people before we can arrest him." PB sounded angry,
"Let's just go there. I'll get the hostages out and get the bad guy." I gritted my teeth. The girls and I left immediately. The banana guards had the perimeter locked down and candy people were gathered trying to see what was going on. Inside I could see Saxon and about ten candy people, they were all tied up and blindfolded and Saxon paced back and forth. "I'm going in." I said moving forward,
"You want some help?" Marceline floated above my head,
"Not really but if you want to do something, go around the back and make sure that he doesn't escape." I directed her. I entered through the front. Saxon was startled and grabbed one of the hostages. I couldn't help but smile.
"S-Stay b-back! I-I'll..." Saxon stuttered,
"You'll what? Kill the hostage? The hostage is the only thing that's keeping you alive. But if really want to kill him be my guest, it wouldn't matter to you, you've already killed Jake." I glared,
"Jake? Oh right that stupid dog that caught me kidnapping those kids. I gave him a drowning curse. I heard he drown in his own urine. How pitiful!" Saxon taunted. A bright light in a tight line shot through the air like the afterglow of a quickly drawn blade. The top of the candy man's head slid off and Saxon's arm fell to the ground as thick blue blood sprayed across the room. Saxon and the candy guy fell over screaming in pain.
"A drowning curse you say? I can't cast a curse but water manipulation I can do. Do you feel that?" I smiled psychotically, Saxon started to cough and sputter. "Of course you do, that feeling is the water from blood diffusing into your lungs. Why don't I make this more painful? I know, I'll boil the water that's filling your lungs." I laughed unstably. He clawed at the ground as he gasped for air. His lungs became so full water was pouring out his mouth and nose. The candy people were all screaming in terror. "As you drift off into the afterlife, look to make face, for this is the face that killed you. Curse me, damn me to the nightosphere just know that nothing you do will affect me for I am your reaper." I watch as his eyes rolled into the back of his head, I watched as his muscles stopped twitching and I watched as his heart stopped beating its life song. As his corpse laid there motionless, water puddling around him, I could feel my cheeks getting wet. I held out my hand, open and bare, then clenched it into a fist. The body exploded leaving only bloodstains over the walls, floor, ceiling and the candy people.
"Finn! What the Glob did you do?" PB shouted angrily,
"Oh right, sorry that I hurt one of the hostages." I apologised.
"...Finn..." PB sighed,
"Thanks PB, I feel better now. I am going home to get clean up. I'll talk to you later." I pushed passed her and went straight home.
While I was in the shower I cried and cried in ball on the floor. I don't know for how long but I was long enough for the water to turn cold. All I could think about was how alone Jake must have been in his last moments. I was so cold. I heard the front door open but there were no footsteps. There was two possibilities either an assassin or Marceline. Even the bathroom door opened, as I looked up to see who was there the cold water was shut off. There before my eyes was a raven haired vampire smiling down on me. "What are you doing Finn? The water's turned cold?" Marceline picked me up.
"I did it again. I wasn't around when they need my help. Why is it so unfair? Will everyone I love just up and die on me?" I sobbed, what am I saying?
"You'll have me Finn, forever, I'm the immortal vampire queen remember?" Marceline hugged me,
"You promise?" I asked,
"Of course." She smiled.
