Chapter Three

Mum called us down for breakfast so I got up and got on my usual clothes, a different coloured sweater vest, and similar coloured pants. I quickly ate breakfast then started walking to the door. “Bye mum!” I yelled.

“Bye boys, have a good day!”

The car ride to school was the same as usual. Harry cranked up some rock station, and sang to every song that came on. We got out of the parking lot, walked into the school, everyone saying hi to mainly Harry. About every person ignored me except for Troy, the obnoxious popular boy. At least Harry tried to be nice.

“Hey nerd boy! Get a date to the dance?” I tried to answer, but before I could he answered, “No you didn’t! I already knew the answer!” Troy and a few of his friends were laughing at me. I saw Harry turn around.

“Troy, leave my little brother alone!”

“Oh hey Harry, still defending Marcel?” Troy chuckled.

Yes I am because he is my brother if you forgot. Leave him alone before this gets ugly,” he threatened. Troy cracked his knuckles.

“It’s gonna get ugly now, is it? Bring it then pretty boy.” Harry ran up to him, hands in a fist. Every person in the hall was watching.

“Harry don’t! Please!” I begged. Troy punched Harry hard right on his nose. He held his nose and swung his fist into Troy’s cheek. When Harry was about to punch him again, a teacher walked out.

“Break it up boys!” Harry still stood his ground. “Now!” She went in between them. “Principal’s office!” Harry smiled as he walked towards the principal’s office behind Troy. My brother was stupid sometimes. There was no reason he needed to start a fight for me.

Until today, I never noticed how many classes I had with Louis. He was in almost every single one of my morning classes. Every now and then he’d look my way. I felt bad because I didn’t tell him hi yet today. When the bell rang for lunch I walked beside him.

“Hey Louis. I never noticed how many classes we had together.”

He smiled slightly. “I’ve always known that actually. So want to eat lunch together? I don’t usually sit with anyone.” I smiled and nodded.

“I just have to put away my books real quick.”

“I’ll walk with you. I’m surprised you’re still talking to me actually.” I looked at him while we walked down the hallway.

“Why? I don’t have a real friend. You’re the only who’s wanted to be my friend.”

“Because you’ve already got the whole nerd thing going for you; I’m sure the last thing you want is people to accuse you of being gay because you’re hanging with me.”

“I really don’t care what most of the people in this school say. Don’t worry about it Louis.” I put away my books quickly.

“Oh Marcel so you’re hanging out with Louis now? Should’ve known you were in the closet!” some guy shouted. Louis glared at the boy.

“He’s not gay, and would it matter if he was? Homophobe. . .” Louis mumbled. “Let’s go Marcel.” A lot of the girls stared at us, mainly Louis. You could tell they thought he was sexy with how they stared at him. We sat down at our own table. I got in line for lunch behind Louis.

Someone tapped my shoulder behind me. I turned around and saw Valentina smiling at me. “Uhh hi Marcel, so I thought about everything last night, I’d love to go to the dance with you.”
