Chapter Two

After a few minutes Valentina and Kayla came in. “Marcel get down here!” I reluctantly walked down into our living room. Valentina sighed when she saw me. “So Valentina here needs some help with maths. I thought you could help her,” Harry winked. Could he make it any more obvious?

“Yeah—uhm—sure. We can go to my room.” I’m so awkward around girls. This isn’t going to go well one bit.

“Have fun you two!” He was trying way too hard with this whole thing. I just smiled and walked up the steps in front of her.

“So should we get started? Did you bring any homework?” She pulled out her book along with her notebook.

The whole time she barely uttered a word, just the occasional, “Yeah mhm.” Now that it was over, she sighed in relief. “Thanks for the help Marcel I really appreciate it.”

I nodded, “Of course. Any time you need help I’ll be here.” Maybe I should her ask anyway. What could it hurt besides my pride? “Uhm Valentina—you know the dance?”

“Marcel—no. I won’t go with you. I’m sorry I really am. I’m already going with Louis Tomlinson anyway.” That might be the worst excuse in history. Everyone knows Louis is gay. Just like Harry though, all the girls wanted him, even though they knew he could never be theirs.

“Okay, sorry, but that excuse is ridiculous. Just tell me you don’t wanna go with me.” She shook her head and walked down the steps. I lied down on my bed, trying to think positive things. It didn’t work though I just kept thinking of the things people always tell me. “You’re such a nerd.” “Go away Marcel go calculate some shit or something.” “Nobody wants to go with a nerd like you to the dance.” I walked down the steps to go outside for a walk. Harry was making out with Kayla, surprise, surprise. He was completely oblivious to me walking out the door.

Valentina was walking down the street so I hurried up to her. “If you change your mind—let me know.” Why did I just do that? I’m so pathetic. She turned to face me then smiled.

“I really hope you find someone Marcel. It’s just not me.”

“Thanks. . .bye,” I mumbled. Valentina hugged me quickly before walking away. At least she was nicer that time about it.

I walked around for a little bit, passing a lot of people’s houses from school. Louis Tomlinson was on the other side of the sidewalk smiling. Smiling at who? Me?  I casually waved at him.

His few tattoos were quite visible from where I stood. I had to admit they looked great on him. He waved back still smiling. I smiled back at him. Louis always seemed like a nice guy, but the last thing I needed was to hang out with a gay guy. People at school would just add onto the things they say already. When I started turning back home I heard footsteps behind me. “Hey Marcel, right?” I turned around to see Louis Tomlinson there.

“Yeah—hi Louis. So did you want something? Help with school?” He smiled brightly at me.

“Just thought you could use a friend; you seemed awful lonely at school. Your brother always tries to help you huh?”
