I wake up to daylight and the smell of bacon and eggs wafting up the stairs through my open door. I blink slowly, suddenly remembering where I was and who had adopted me. I sat up with a start, remembering Brendon. I got out of bed and raced downstairs.

"So, it seems that you have a habit of waking up late on weekends, Abree," Brendon says, chuckling. Eve giggles, as I sit down in my seat at the table, red-faced.

"Sorry," I mumble, eating my delicious food. I wonder where Sarah was. Right on cue, she came into the dining room with a plate of bacon in her hands.

"Anyone want more bacon? Oh, you must be Abree and Eve! So nice to meet you!" She opened her arms, and the three of us had a big bear hug. Brendon smiled. It was nice. It felt like I actually belonged here, instead of a temporary orphanage. I was glad to actually have a family.

"Yes, we would love some more bacon," Brendon, Eve, and I chorused. Sarah smiled and sat down at the table, handing out the bacon. Soon, we were all finished.

"Today, since you girls have just come from an orphanage, I am going to take you shopping for clothes and anything else you might need!" Sarah winked at us as we put our dishes away. Brendon went upstairs to work on his song lyrics, and the three of us left talked about what we wanted to get when we got to the mall. I smiled, content with my new family.

"Finally," I said, hopping out of the car and into the chilly November air. I shivered. It had been about a 30 minute drive from our house to the local mall.
"Let's go in," Sarah said. Eve and I followed her across the huge parking lot under a bleak gray sky. I snuggled into the soft gray scarf Sarah had lent me and stepped through the threshold into the mall.
"Woah." Eve and I stopped to stare at it. I gasped. We were on the second of four floors, Sarah told us. It was the largest mall I had ever been in in my life. Well, not like I had actually been to many malls in my life, so there wasn't much to compare it to. People scurried this way and that from store to store, carrying colorful shopping bags. It was so colorful. There were so many different noises and smells and colors and people and stores that it was quite overwhelming to see.
"Hot Topic first," Eve said. I agreed. Sarah smiled, like she knew that was exactly what we were going to choose. She led us over to it. Before going inside the store, she had an announcement: "Okay, since you need some more clothes and things, you have $750 each to spend in the whole mall. Make sure you use it wisely, because this mall is quite large, as you can see." We agreed, our smiles ear to ear. We giggled and went inside the store.

"Meet me at the checkout when you're done!" Once inside the store, we an to the back, where all of our favorite band merch was. Woah.  They actually have some Bastille stuff! I was shocked. I grabbed a Bastille shirt. I also picked a My Chemical Romance shirt, a Panic! At the Disco shirt, a Fall Out Boy shirt, and a PVRIS shirt. Eve did the same, but in different styles. We met Sarah at the checkout and she paid for it. "Thank you so much!"

Sarah checked her watch.

"Time to go," she said. We had been at the mall for about five hours, our arms filled with bags from various stores. Along with clothing, Eve and I had both bought a little makeup because ours was cheap and almost out.

"Brendon has a surprise for you, so we don't want to keep him waiting," Sarah said mischievously, a half smile on her face.

"Ooooooooh!" We chorused. I wonder what it is.

•••

"Hey, sweetie," Brendon said, giving Sarah a kiss on the cheek. Eve and I giggled as we set all of our bags on the table.

"Did Sarah tell you I'll be taking the two of you to the recording studio?"

"Oh, so that was the surprise!" Eve said excitedly. Brendon chucked.
"Yes, it was. Now come on! Race you to the car! Last one there is a rotten- hey!" Brendon giggled as we pushed by him to get to the car. He followed us, then met us in the car.

"Guess I'm the rotten egg, then," he said with a smile.

"OOOOH, oh, YEAH! The crown.. So close I can taste it, I see what's mine and take it!"
My eyes widened at Brendon's impressive range. Eve and I were watching him sing through a plexiglass window. He was currently recording a song he called "Emperor's New Clothes."

(Finders keepers, losers weepers)

Welcome to the end of eras
Ice has melted back to life
Done my time and served my sentence
Dress me up and watch me die
If it feels good, tastes good
It must be mine
Dynasty decapitated
You just might see a ghost tonight

And if you don't know, now you know

I'm taking back the crown
I'm all dressed up and naked
I see what's mine and take it
(Finders keepers, losers weepers)
Oh, yeah
The crown...
So close I can taste it
I see what's mine and take it
(Finders keepers, losers weepers)
Oh, yeah

Sycophants on velvet sofas
Lavish mansions, vintage wine
I am so much more than royal
Snatch your chain and mace your eyes
If it feels good, tastes good
It must be mine
Heroes always get remembered
But you know legends never die

And if you don't know, now you know

I'm taking back the crown
I'm all dressed up and naked
I see what's mine and take it
(Finders keepers, losers weepers)
Oh, yeah
The crown
So close I can taste it
I see what's mine and take it
(Finders keepers, losers weepers)
Oh, yeah

Mortal kings are ruling castles
Welcome to my world of fun
Liars settle into sockets
Flip the switch and watch them run

He finished and went on to the next song, "House of Memories". After he finished, he came out to talk to us.
"Is House of Memories about Ryan Ross?" I asked him playfully as we walked to the car. Eve was already there waiting.
"Maaaaaaaybe," he said playfully. "Ok, it is, but keep that as a little secret between us, okay?"

"Okay."
