Blaze's POV
It's been hours since Lyla has been in the operation room. Michael still wasn't answering his phone. To say that the 3 of us are worried is an understatement. I hated not knowing what was going on. And the fact that a hellhound was able to get to her without any of us knowing. The nurse asked us a lot of questions when we arrived. I let Jake answer them. He had simply said that she had been attacked by an animal in Jake's backyard. She bought the lie. Humans. So gullible.I was pacing the waiting room and have been doing so off an on for 4 hours now. Damon was leaned against the wall. Jake was sitting in one of the chairs in the waiting room with his head in his hands. I looked up from my pacing when a nurse walked in to the waiting room.
"Are you all here for Lyla?" She asked. The 3 of us jumped up and crowded around the nurse. "Is she okay? When do we get to see her?" The nurse looked at our faces and then at Jake. "She's not good, Jake. She's lost a lot of blood. And she's not healing like she should." Damon and I both looked at Jake with confusion written all over our faces. "Yes, I know Nurse Heather James. Stop staring at me like that. And yes she knows about us. She's helped me several times when I've been hurt badly. But back to Lyla. Why is it taking so long?" The nurse, Heather, shook her head and sighed. "She's not good. From where her father beat her and then the hellhound, she's barely hanging in there. But don't worry. I made sure that the doctors wouldn't know what she is. Right now, she just got out of surgery and is resting. The doctors said it would be best to not see her until we know that she's going to make it through the night. After the doctors have given the okay, then you will be able to see her. She's not going to be able to leave for a few days. Her uncle has been contacted and he will be on his way in a few. Once Lyla is feeling better it might be best if you all talk her into taking her father to court for abuse."
I was shocked. That was a lot to take in at once. This nurse was acting like she knew Lyla was going to make it through this. And I really did too. I just want her to be better, faster. "Thank you, Heather. I know it takes a lot out of you to deal with our kind." Jake said and put a hand on the nurse's shoulder. She blushed and nodded her head before walking away.
"Are you dating the nurse?" Damon asked Jake. Jake just calmly sat back down in his chair. "We've hooked up once or twice. That's all." Damon chuckled and shook his head. "You're such a liar." The back ground noise got louder after he said that and I turned around to see 2 police officers running down the hallway. Then I saw nurse Heather running back towards us. Jake jumped to his feet and met her halfway. "What is it? What's going on?" Heather looked at us all with wide eyes. "She's gone. I don't know how. But I don't understand. She had just gotten out of surgery. There's no way that she could have just gotten up and walked away after that." Jake looked at the two of us and then turned back to Heather.
"We'll find her. Just call me if she turns back up." He nodded to me and Damon and the three of us ran out of the hospital.
Lyla's POV
My head hurt. Hell my whole body hurt. But I couldn't stop. I had to get away from that place. I don't know what they did to me but I knew I could feel it all when they were sewing my chest up. When I had woken up in the hospital looking room, I had found some clothes in the closet and just ran out of there. Now I was heading to Jake's house. I was so glad that Jake had shown me where the spare key was about 6 months ago. I got the key out of its hiding spot and went to unlock the door but found it was already unlocked. I walked in and went straight up to the room I had stayed in. Going straight to the bathroom, I took off the clothes and hopped into the warm shower. Once I was done carefully washing the blood off of me, I stepped out of the shower and looked into the mirror.
