Lyla's POV
Michael and I walked all the way to the truck. He pulled out his phone and began typing. "I was the closest one to you. My class was down the hall. I felt something was up so I ran straight there. Good thing I did otherwise that room would have been destroyed. What was going on?" He finished typing and then placed his phone back into his pocket. "He was trying to force me into talking to the police about my 'father's' disappearance. I couldn't. They would have tried to blame me." He sighed and brushed a piece of hair out of my face that had fallen out of my bun. "It's okay, Lyla. You don't have to do anything. I'll get Jake up here to deal with that and to take care of getting you set up with online classes." I nodded and said thank you. I looked over at the school as 2 figures ran towards us. It was Blaze and Damon. "Got your text. Let's get out of here." Damon said as he smiled at me. "You alright?" Blaze asked. I nodded and hopped into the truck after Damon unlocked it. Blaze was in the front seat this time, with Damon driving, and Michael in the back seat with me. I pulled out the flask from my bag and downed all of it. There still wasn't a burning sensation. "Why isn't there a burning feeling when I drink?" I asked. Blaze handed me a smoke and a lighter and I quickly lit it after mumbling thanks. Damon was the one to answer, "We don't feel the same types of pain as humans. Alcohol doesn't effect us as much as humans but we can still get pretty shit faced if we drink enough. Say your a human. It would take you a half a bottle to start feeling the effect of it. Well, when your a fallen, it takes about 2 whole ones before we can feel it." I pouted. "That really sucks. I love the burning sensation." The guys chuckled. "Drink something stronger then." Michael said. Shortly after finishing my cigarette, we arrived home.
I ignored the guys and went straight up to my room. I wanted to take a shower and calm down fully before dealing with anything else. Once I was under the warm water, I felt all my worries wash away. It felt nice to be able to not worry about anything for a few minutes. After my shower I went to my closet and changed into a sun dress, all because I was feeling lazy. Walking down the stairs, I noticed that it was more quiet than it should be. I checked the kitchen and the living room for the guys but they weren't there. Then I checked upstairs but couldn't hear anything up there either. Finally I went and looked in the back yard. There, all I could see was light flying everywhere. I gasped and ran off the back porch yelling at the guys to stop. They turned and looked at me in confusion. "Lyla, what's wrong?" I looked at Michael, as he said that, with wide eyes, "What do you mean what is wrong? I was about to ask you all the same thing. Why are you all attacking each other?" They all broke out laughing after that. "We were practicing. Not trying to kill each other." Damon said between laughs. Blaze had ended up on the ground from laughing so hard. I was so embarrassed and it showed in my face, which had turned bright red. I was about to walk back into the house when Damon said, "We would ask you to join us but you are in a dress." I stopped and looked back at them. "You want to watch and learn a little?" Blaze asked. I nodded and sat down on the porch steps. Blaze rolled his shoulders, Damon cracked his knuckles, and Michael stretched his arms. And then light was flying everywhere again. I tried to keep track of who was hitting who but it was all moving so fast. They stopped after a few minutes to take a break and the 3 walked over to me. "So who do you think won?" Michael asked while bouncing on his heels. I looked at them with an eyebrow raised and wide eyes. "Ummm..." I looked between the 3. "Draw?" They looked at me like 'really.. were you not paying attention?' type of look. "I couldn't keep up. You guys were moving to fast." Damon chuckled and pat my shoulder before walking back into the house. The rest of us walked back into the house and walked into the kitchen.
I had the bright idea to cook dinner for the guys. So far, it wasn't a good idea. I really had no idea how to cook. So after an hour of looking at the cabinets and fridge to figure something out, I settled with looking up cooking lessons on Youtube. I dragged a laptop into the kitchen and got it set up on the counter like a mini TV would be. 30 minutes later, I had music blasting and was cooking up a storm. I was cooking some weird dish I had never heard of. I think it was called stir fry or something like that. I had diced up some peppers and onions and was now working on the chicken strips and the sauce. From the video, it looked pretty easy. Once I had figured out the best way to make the sauce, everything else fell into place. 10 minutes later, I was pouring the cooked food into a large, and when I say large i mean gigantic, serving bowl. I had learned that we all needed to eat a lot more than humans so i made a whole lot of food. "Guys! Get your arses down here and eat. I didn't just stand here and cook for my own health." I yell. Damon peeks his head around the corner of the kitchen doorway. "You didn't burn the house down? Did you poison it?" I roll my eyes and grab bowls for all of us to eat out of. "Grab the forks, will you?" He did as I asked and helped me finish setting the table. Jake, Blaze, and Michael walked in at the same time. "Oh no, were not going to die of food poisoning are we?" Jake says playfully as he sits down. I glare at him. "Just because you said that, you have to try it first." The guys all chuckle and we all sit down. Jake shrugs and scoops up a big amount of stir fry into his bowl. Then he shoves a large amount into his mouth and chews silently. After he is done with his mouthful, he smiles at me. "This is really good, Lyla. Thank you." I say your welcome as the other guys quickly dig in. I smile brightly as I look at all of them. They are my goofy family and I couldn't be happier.
