Danielle's POV

I was packing, again. There was nothing for me here. Foster home after foster home, no one had anything to offer. I was alone. No one wanted me, nor I them. I was beginning to wonder if I would ever find someone who could care for me. I doubt it.

I threw my beloved book, 'Arthurian Legends' into my book bag along with my combat boots, a change of clothes, my Walkman, and my cell phone. It wasn't much, but it was all I had. Silently opening the window, I slid my foot out and searched for a hold.

I scaled down the side of the house and landed roughly on the soft ground. I scanned my surroundings and decided that the forest would be sufficient shelter for the night. I tossed my pack on to my shoulders and started in the direction of the trees.

I broke through the first line of pines and made my way to a clearing about 30 yards away. When I reached the middle, I set my bag down as a pillow and decided to get some rest. It would be a long day tomorrow.

Sunlight invaded my vision, all I could see was orange. I slowly opened my eyes and tried to adjust to the lighting around me. Looking around, the forest in which I had taken refuge looked different. It was greener, somehow. And I could hear many more animals. Dazed, I decided to sit and read. 'Arthurian Legends' always helped to calm my nerves.

Suddenly, the sound of hooves and voices pierced the air. I looked up and found myself surrounded by men in strange clothes.
