Merlin's POV
Danielle followed Arthur and I to his chambers, somewhat nervously. When we reached his door, I went to pull the door open at the same time as Arthur. Our hands met on the knob and he lingered just a bit longer than he should have. I felt myself flush a deep red and saw Danielle giving us a knowing look.
Looking away quickly, I opened the door and practically fell in. Arthur caught me and Danielle uttered a quiet, "Awwww."
Arthur tensed up beside me and turned as red as me. Danielle laughed and said, "Don't worry, I'm fine with it."
Puzzled I asked, "Is it common where you're from?"
She just laughed and responded, "Being gay? Of course, I'm gay myself."
Gay... Did that mean happy? Arthur, seemingly reading my mind decided to voice my question, "You mean being happy? I thought you weren't happy with your situation?"
"Oh, no, honey," I cringed when she called him 'honey', "Where I come from, gay means to love the same gender. But gay usually refers to men, so you could call me lesbian, I guess."
"You like the same gender? So you like females, then? That's OK?" I questioned further.
She sighed, "To some people, yes. But not to the families I've been stuck with."
I cringed at the thought of the bruise we saw on her hip. Danielle suddenly lifted he downcast eyes and smiled, "Let's get on with the gadgets, yeah?"
Arthur and I nodded eagerly as she pulled out the round thing from earlier. "This, my friends, is called a Walkman," she took out a case and pulled another circular thing from it, "And this is a CD. When you put the CD in the Walkman and plug in headphones," she paused to untangle the white 'headphones', "You get music."
She proceeded to teach us how to use headphones and hit a button on the Walkman. I jumped as a loud sound jumped into the earpiece. Arthur giggled next to me and started nodding his head to what Danielle called a... What was it? Oh, yeah! A beat. I beamed, proud of myself for learning all these advanced terms.
"What is this amazing sound," Arthur asked in amazement.
Danielle chuckled, "This song is 'You're the Voice' by John Farnham."
"I love it!" he exclaimed.
After the song, she pulled put the rectangular object I had seen her with earlier. "Surprisingly good signal," Danielle muttered as she walked towards us.
She positioned herself between us and tapped in numbers on the 'screen'. There was a short busrt of light and everything fell into place. "This is called a phone. I put a password on it, so you cannot get in unless you know it. This helps us communicate from long distances without having to travel."
"I'll show you how to call someone," she made sure we were watching and pressed the screen slowly. She tapped on the name 'Kate' and a different image popped up. She hit the button labeled 'Speaker' and waited. The phone was ringing, I think. Is that what she called it? We heard rustling on the... Other end of the line? Was that right?
An overly excited voice answered, "Hey, girl, hey! Where ya been?"
"Here and there," Danielle replied.
"That don't answer my question, girl," came the reply.
"Just trying not to get caught, I guess. I ran again."
A sigh from the other girl, "Of course, you peasant."
I laughed at that, this Kate, whoever she was, sounded like Arthur. Danielle galred at me.
"Oh, who was that, Dani? You finally found yourself a nice boy? Or was that a girl?"
"Oh, just this guy I met. Nothing's happening, he's gay. And so am I, just to remind you."
"Omg, you found a gay buddie? Finally!"
"Guess so... He and his boyfriend are listening to us."
"I want pictures! Any possibility one's straight?"
Danielle glanced at us and chuckled, "No way at all. Here, let me FaceTime you. And don't ask about where we are, please."
Danielle then tapped a button that said 'FaceTime' and an excited girl appeared on the screen. Danielle held the phone so we could all be seen in the tiny little window in the corner of the screen.
Kate smiled and squealed, "They are adorable!" She sang.
I looked over at Arthur and grinned at his flushed features. Just to mortify him further, I pressed a chaste kiss to the corner of his mouth. It worked, and he turned a deeper shade of red than I thought was possible.
Kate squealed again, "I wish I had someone like that."
I raised an eyebrow, "Wait, you two aren't..." They both cut me off with glares.
"No offense, but not my type," Danielle teased.
"And besides," Kate laughed, "I'm wayy too far into straight-town."
She lowered her voice and continued, "And checking out the hot guys." She winked and laughed.
We talked for a while longer and finally 'hung up' as Danielle put it. After two more hours of her showing us apps, games, texting, and social media, Danielle was shown to her guest chambers.
"Finally alone," Arthur growled as he pinned me against the wall and kissed me, "I was getting restless."
I giggled, "What do you want now?" I raised an eyebrow, trying to be seductive.
"This," Arthur picked me up and carried me to his bed. I didn't go home that night.
