The Servant Boy

We rode for what seemed like hours, when in reality, it was only about 30 minutes. I talked to Merlin and found out that the man who had first talked to me was King Arthur and around him were his knights; Gwaine, Elyan, Lancelot, Leon, Percival, and Mordred.

I kept pinching myself, willing this to be a dream. I couldn't be in the book, no way. Besides, wasn't Merlin supposed to be an old man? This wasn't how the story went, why was I here? Everything seemed so off. Enchanter Merlin was a servant? The most powerful sorcerer of all time? This wasn't right!

I leaned forward and whispered into Merlin's ear, "Enchanter, why are you working as a lowly servant? You can do so much more. Surely King Arthur knows that, he would be nothing without you, Emrys."

Merlin looked back at me, shocked. "Who are you?" He demanded , " How do you know me?"

I was starting to get confused, "Where I come from, most everyone knows you. You and Arthur have a great tale. But it does not start out like this. Not even close."

"How do you know these things? Are you a Druid?" He narrowed his eyes. I rolled mine, hating to be of suspicion.

"No, I am not. But if the story has jot yet come to pass, I have no place here. You need to help me get back to ho- where I came from," I knew this was the right thing to do. Even though I would live unhappily ever after, I could jot mess up the fate of others. Espesically not one as important as this.

After that, we stayed silent. We finally reached the castle gates and Merlin helped me dimount. I fell forwards and landed in his arms. He looked down at me and we stayed there.

Someone behind us cleared their throat and I looked up to see King Arthur glaring daggers at me. Did he really think I could hurt him?

I let go of Merlin and watched Arthur walk away. He looked over his shoulder and made sure I wasn't near his servant. Was that... jealousy?
