Chapter 10

✨Hazels P.O.V✨

Once we slide down Leo says "Hey lets go to the Hospital already." His voice was a bit shaky.

We got up from the slide and went to his truck."You visit your mom everyday?" I ask."Yea almost everyday sometimes always at six o'clock". I turned on the radio and the song Young Volcanoes came on.I gasped "Oh my gosh I love this song so much."Leo chuckles.I turn up the volume and start sing"Tonight the foxes hunt the hounds it's all over now before it has begun we've already won!" I sing.Leo laughs and so do I "We are wild we are like young volcanoes!we are wild Americana Exotica do you want to feel a little beautiful baby!!"

I keep sing until the song finishes."Oh I love that song." We arrive at Jacobi Medical Center.Leo pulls in the parking lot and turns off the engine.We get off and enter and walk to the font desk.There is a lady sitting down typing on the computer.She turns to look at us and gives us a smile."Hi how may I help you?" Leo speaks up "Uh were here to visit Kimberly Valencuela room 216 2 floor." "You are?" "Her son Leo this is my friend Hazel." "Okay you can go up sweetie."

We go to the elevator and press the button.The doors ding open and we enter. Beethoven was playing on the speakers.The doors ding open and we walk out heading to room 216.

We stop at the door and Leo walks in.On the bed is a lady in about her mid fourties with long brown hair pulled in a side ponytail she has olive skin.Leo walks up to her and pulls her into a tight hug and she returns the hug.Leo turns to me and motions with his hand to me to come forward.I look at Leo and see that his eyes were glassy and I knew he wanted to cry.I walk over to the bed and the lady turns her head to me and I can see her warm brown eyes."Hello I'm Kimberly but you can call me Kim." She says in a soft voice.

"And who might you be?" She ask."Hi I'm Leo-" "Girlfriend?"she cuts me off and ask."Ama" Leo complains and I laugh."Ah no más estoy jugando mijo"Leo then sits on the bed and Kim turns her head back to me "What's your name mija?" "My name is Hazel Valdez" "You are very beautiful I can see why you are not dating Leo you are to beautiful for him" she slightly chuckles."Ama!" Leo complains again.I chuckle and she says "I'm just playing mijo I bet you get all the ladies"We both laugh.

We all talk until a nurse comes in."Sorry to interrupt but you guys are going to have to go but you guys can always come back tomorrow." Leo nods and goes to give his mom a hug "Ugh I don't want to leave ma." He says his voice trembling."I know mijo pero si puedes venir mañana" "Yo sé ma" "te amo mucho mijo" "yo te amo mucho también ma" "Okay now go mijo so you don't get home late okay and tell nana that I said hi and that I love her okay." "Okay" She turns to me and extends her arms and I give her a hug."It was nice meeting you mija take care of yourself" "Gracias tú también" "Que le vaya bien" "Love you mom I'll try to come back tomorrow with nana okay." "Okay mijo love you to bye" "bye ma." We walk out of the room and go to the elevator.

It's silent all the way down until the doors ding open.We walk to the car and we get inside.Leo starts to cry and I comfort him."Ugh it's so hard seeing her like this I just wish she'll get better soon"He sobs onto my shoulder."Leo it's okay okay? she trying her best to be strong and we both know she's a strong women." "I just want her to be old self again and come back home with me and my nana" " I know I know" "She i-" he chokes up."Sh sh it's okay." He hugs me tighter and I do the same.He pulls back wipes away his tears and says "Thanks" and he turns on the engine and drives out of the parking lot.

On the way we stop at McDonald's and grab a bite.He drops me off at home and I thank him for the ride and tell him not to worry."No problem and yea thanks see you tomorrow" he smiles."See you tomorrow Leo."I smile back."Bye hazelnut"and he drives off.I walk to my house and enter the house.

--2 months--

I hear the alarm go off and groan.Well at least it's Friday.I get out of bed and grab a towel and head to the shower.I get out and put on a loose plain white t-shirt,dark blue jeans,my gray and white converse and brush my hair.I leave my hair down grab my gray hoodie put it on and grab my bag and walk to the kitchen.

I grab the bread bag a grab to pieces and put them in the toaster.When the breads are done I spread Nutella on them.I have the house to myself so I turn on the TV and leave it on Disney Junior.I watch Octonots and wait for Leo to come.

I hear the honk of Leo's truck and grab my stuff.As I open the door I was surprised.Leo was waiting right in front of the door.Our faces were a few inches apart."Well hello Hazelnut!" "You scared me!".He just chuckles and moves out of the way so I can pass to get to the truck.We put on our belts and he drives off to school."You eat anything?" He ask."Yea I toast with Nutella." "Oh I was gonna stop by McDonald's" "Yea you can stop there" I love McDonald's.He laughs and turns on the radio."How's your mom doing?" I ask.He tightens his jaw "She's not getting worse but she's not getting better either you know"His eyes were glassy."How's everything going at your house." He ask."You know same old same old I guess,my mom want to go to dinner for my birthday Saturday." "Really that's good." "Yea I guess we are kind not arguing anymore."

"That's good right?" "Yea kinda glad cuz it's my birth week!" I say excited.Leo chuckles,"yea your getting old" "what I'm just turning sixteen" I playfully shove him to the right side."in two months you're going to be seventeen so I wouldn't be talking cuz you're going to get old to Leo" I scoff."Whatevah" he scoffs.Then we finally get to school."we didn't get McDonald's!" I complain."We'll get some after school hazelnut." Then he puts his arm around my neck and we enter school.
