⠀⠀ Baekhyun was getting pretty impatient.
⠀⠀ Eight fifty-seven and that damned Park Chanyeol still wasn't here! The shop was closed up and Junmyeon was the only one still there now, probably wiping down the tables and mopping the floor clean and here was Baekhyun, standing in front of the small, hole-in-the-wall shop in the frigid late-fall weather. He shivered as a gust of wind blew on his face, and he rubbed his bare hands together to create some warmth. It was fucking cold and Baekhyun could see the wisps of his breath in the air clearly.
⠀⠀ Ah, fuck this, Baekhyun thought sourly as he quickly waved to Junmyeon and began his usual walk to the bus stop. Fuck Chanyeol and his gorgeousness—if he can't even show up to a first date with the Byun Baekhyun, then forget him. Baekhyun thought this confidently as he turned up his nose and smirked.
⠀⠀ Casually putting on his headphones and playing some Girls' Generation (he played You Think because he thought it fit the situation), he was quietly singing along: "You think you're real coo-oo-ool!" when a car—a rather worn-down one, in fact—pulled up on the street next to the sidewalk Baekhyun was walking on. Baekhyun frowned tightly and squinted, attempting to peer through the window before it rolled down to reveal the driver inside.
⠀⠀ "Well, Park Chanyeol," Baekhyun sniffed in disdain as he placed his headphones around his neck, "a bit late for a date, wouldn't you think?" he tilted his head quizzically, staring fiercely into Chanyeol's brown eyes. Of course, his heart began to pick up the pace—Chanyeol didn't forget after all!—but he did have his reputation to uphold and no beautiful man was going to make him crumble so easily.
⠀⠀ "I-I'm sorry!" Chanyeol blurted out, his lower lip jutting out in a pout, which made Baekhyun's heart thump madly in his chest. "Work was hectic as hell and I couldn't get out in time. Can I still take you out for a date, Baekhyun-sshi?" he asked hopefully, his eyes suddenly lighting up as he waited patiently for an answer.
⠀⠀ Baekhyun knew what he was going to say. He wasn't stupid, but playing hard-to-get was always fun, especially if you were Byun Baekhyun. He bit his lip playfully and shuffled his feet around in mock unsureness. "I don't know," Baekhyun said and shrugged, "I was waiting for you for twenty minutes in front of the shop, you know."
⠀⠀Baekhyun wanted to laugh at Chanyeol's sudden wide-eyed expression. The latter twisted in his seat and began bowing his head profusely, mumbling his apologies, and Baekhyun felt his heart clench. Chanyeol seemed like a nice guy that didn't just want to get into his pants and Baekhyun didn't want to drag his theatrics longer than was necessary.
⠀⠀"Alright, since you asked so politely." Baekhyun finally said dismissively, hiking up his backpack and going around the front of the car to get to the passenger seat. Chanyeol had decided to get out of the car and open the door for Baekhyun courteously with a smile that was a little too wide and very excited. Baekhyun flashed him his trademark million-watt smile before sliding into the passenger seat, briefly seeing some pink dusting across Chanyeol's nose and cheeks.
⠀⠀Chanyeol hurried back to the driver's side and ignited the engine while fastening his seatbelt. He turned to Baekhyun with a grin from ear-to-ear and shifted slightly so he could completely face the smaller boy.
⠀⠀"Y'know, I—uh, I'm thankful that you called and suggested a date like this, and I'm really sorry for fucking it up already, Baekhyun-sshi," Chanyeol said sincerely, and the corner of Baekhyun's lips curled upward in a tiny of smile. He shrugged carelessly before facing front.
⠀⠀"Here's your chance to prove that I didn't make a mistake, right?" Baekhyun asked playfully, flashing a small wink at Chanyeol and enjoying how flustered the taller one was becoming. Chanyeol eagerly nodded and he faced forward before stepping on the gas pedal sand driving away from the sidewalk.
