⠀⠀Chanyeol was an optimistic type of guy. You know—he sees the cup half-full rather than half-empty, and see the silver linings in all situation. He firmly believed since the day he was born that he should smile because every day was a gift, and that every day was a good day in some way.
⠀⠀This was the first time in his entire lifetime that Chanyeol thought that his beliefs were wrong.
⠀⠀Things started off normal. It was a normal day of school with Chanyeol being too lazy to drive himself to school and forcing Jongdae to do it instead. Jongin was hitching a ride with Sehun, courtesy to about sixteen rounds of Rock, Paper, Scissors. Minseok and Lu Han were both still sleeping since their classes weren't until a little later. The Chinese man decided to stay over once again after a long night of work and Netflix and chill—both figuratively and literally holing themselves in Minseok's room, watching Netflix, and vegetating on the bed. Fun.
⠀⠀School proceeded as normal with Chanyeol nearly falling asleep in Calculus after lunch period and Jongdae clinging onto him like they were the couple rather than Sehun and Jongdae. The trio of Chanyeol, Jongdae, and Sehun then went into the school's private music room (the "CJS Band Room of Complete and Utter Awesomeness" Sehun continued to call it), and practiced for probably an hour and a half. Chanyeol's arms were exhausted and sore by the end of it from drumming for the long period of time, and he could't believe that Jongdae's voice wasn't completely gone from the way he was belting it, and Chanyeol considered it a miracle that Sehun's fingers weren't falling off from his guitar playing. Jongin was just teasing them about their complaining and music while heavily panting from his own dance practice.
⠀⠀Tired, Chanyeol still found it in himself to bound home in a hurry, almost throwing his friends forward as he floored Jongdae's car, which drew a number of whines and threats. No matter—Chanyeol had to get home as fast as possible to take a shower and get ready for a date with Baekhyun. His friends' complaints were the last of his concerns.
⠀⠀Oh man, Byun Baekhyun. Chanyeol could go on for hours about that boy.
⠀⠀Baekhyun was the best thing that had ever happened to Chanyeol. He was an angel—a person that was almost too good to be true. He was humorous, playful, and snarky, as well as sassy. Add the excitement and hyperactivity of a seven year old and the sweetness of Chanyeol's favorite candy and you had Byun Baekhyun. Chanyeol loved every single bit of the smaller boy's personality, and he couldn't help but wonder what he had done in a previous life to deserve such a human being like Byun Baekhyun. Chanyeol absolutely adored how Baekhyun put up a tough front when in reality all there was a fluffy interior that could light up the room in an instance.
⠀⠀When he was in Dream Café for the first time all those months ago, Chanyeol immediately found himself drawn to to the small, extremely attractive man bustling around the different tables within the small, hole-in-the-wall establishment, smiling prettily at the various amount of customers. His first very intelligent thought while his jaw was dropped was, Oh wow, he's hot. He remembered that Jongin had smacked him hard on the back of his head and sent him face-first into his fries to snap him out of his daze of staring at the handsome waiter. Stupid Jongin.
⠀⠀He somehow found it in himself to scrawl a note on a piece of paper he had found in his notebook, containing what he thought was a cheerful and flirty offer to hit him up with his number below. Chanyeol was most definitely completely enamored with the boy despite only knowing his name: Baekhyun, and as punishment for humiliating him, Chanyeol forced Jongin to relay the note to the hot waiter. Turns out that all that came back was a satisfied Jongin strolling into the house, singing that Baekhyun had flirted with him and how he totally had a chance. Pft. When Baekhyun actually called Chanyeol later that night, Chanyeol remembered absolutely losing his shit and freaking out.
