As I walked down Hunters driveway I turned around to wave goodbye. As I spun around he was already standing at his door waving to me. I raised my hand high and yelled out, "Farewell, young jedi!" And to my surprise, he replied, "And may the force be with you, young padawan!" I smiled and started towards my house.
I think I had just made a friend.
I arrived home and sat down on the couch in our living room. My younger brother James came bounding into the room and snatched up the t.v remote frantically pressing buttons. Finally the t.v turned on and switched channels, something about Monster Truck Racing, I had no idea. James was 13 and a sports freak, he loved anything to do with sports and it even went as far as car racing, thus the monster trucks. He sat down on my hand not even flinching. I yelped and yanked my hand out from under him, he still didnt even notice anything, he was so hooked in to the t.v. I got up angrily and stormed into my room. I was just about to slam the door when my other brother Parker came running in, crying.
"What's wrong?" I asked him, wrapping him in a warm hug.
"Sp-Sparky, he just, he-he.." He could barely say a sentence. I squeezed him tighter then let him go and looked him in the eye. "What happened? Just calm down, and tell me." He took a deep breath. "Sparky, sparky got squashed." He looked about ready to burst into tears again. I stared at him in disbelief.
"Sparky got squashed? How? When?" I stood up straight and walked out the door.
"Yes, I was putting out the trash and, he, he was in the bag and I didn't know he was in there so I chucked it onto the road for the garbage truck. And, I heard a yelp so I ran out to get it back but it was too late." He said it so fast I could hardly hear him. I walked outside and sitting on the back doorstep was a black rubbish sack. I knelt down and opened it up. I gasped as I saw what was inside. Our little Yorkshire terrier, all squashed with its insides oozing out. I held my hand up to my mouth and puked a little inside it. "Well. I'm sorry Parker, but, he's dead. We're going to have to bury him." I looked up at him. He was playing with his fingers with a sad expression.
"Ok" he mummered. "I'll go get the shovel..." His voice trailed off as he turned around slowly. Parker loved Sparky, he had gotten him for his third birthday. He had grown up with him. And now, Sparky was gone.
Parker came back with the shovel and I asked him where he wanted Sparky to be buried. "Over there." He pointed over to our mothers flowerbeds. "Are you sure? I don't think mum would like that.. How about over there, under that tree?" I asked. "No. I want him buried there." Parker was stubborn. Very. Stubborn. I sighed and walked over to the petunias. "Here? Is this where you want him?"
"Exactly, where I want him." He smiled. I bent over and started digging. About 15 minutes later, after Parker had gone inside to get a drink for him selve, I had dug a good sized hole. I called Parker outside to come and have a look at it. He bounded outside and stared at it thoughtfully. "Hmm...maybe a bit deeper. I do want Sparky buried quite deep." He looked at me with his big brown eyes. "Fine, I'll make it deeper." I started to dig a bit more. Parker ran back inside to watch t.v with James. I kept digging until I struck something. I looked down and pulled out a metal object. I dusted it off and turned it around. Once I had had a clear look at it and realised what it was, I screamed.
