It wasn't too long until they got lost. Kevin looked around the tree-filled area and lowered a brow.
"Kev, are you ok?"
"Yeah..."
"Do you know where we are?"
"Um, no."Conner's heart dropped and he began to panic.
"Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, we're lost! We're lost?! Why?! How?!"
Kevin put his hand on Conner's shoulder. "Shh... We can get out of this."
Then they were interrupted by rustling. Kevin began to panic.
"Nope. Nope nope nope. Not dealing with that. Let's get out of here."They began to speed out of the forest in whatever way felt best, when a mysterious figure pulled Conner away with a scream.
"KEVIN!" Conner shouted.
Kevin's heart jumped, and he began to hyperventilate. Tears came to his eyes. "Con! CON! CAN YOU HEAR ME?!"
He ran towards the noise and tried to follow the danger. He decided if he dragged Conner into this, it would be his duty to get him out.
Kevin finally arrived at a gross, run down looking shack in the middle of nowhere. For a second, he hesitated. "Uh..." He muttered to himself, thinking about turning back. But he couldn't live without Conner. He slowly opened the creaky door and tip toed in.
It was dimly lit and smelled like something was rotting.
He heard muffled shrieks and immediately knew it was Conner. His heart was racing out of his chest, and tears wouldn't stop escaping his eyes. He was shaking and trying not to breathe as heavily as he was outside.
Kevin turned the corner, and his eyes widened. Conner was strapped to a chair, in front of a long table. On the other side was another chair, but it was empty.
Kevin slowly crept around the wall, looking for a weapon to grab. But a voice interrupted his scheming. It was low and gravelly, and sounded like a voice changer.
"Hello, Kevin." It teased.
Kevin looked up and began to hyperventilate faster.
Conner flicked his head towards Kevin, with bloody scratches and bruises spread throughout his teary, red face.
"Kevin...Please....L-Leave!" He screamed, tears in the way of his speech."N-no Conner... Shhh... don't worry. It's all going to be ok." Kevin knew it wasn't, but he knew too much stress would be the death of Conner.
"Awe, so cute! Too bad it'll all be over soon." The voice added.
Kevin's face turned red out of anger. "You are sick!" He screamed.
Kevin didn't want to ever see Conner like this in his life. It hurt him.
"Hah. I'm aware. Now take a seat." Cracked the voice.
"Why would I do that?"
A sawblade lowered over Kevin's head.
"Take a seat."Kevin began to sob as he frantically sat down. The sawblade raised back into the roof, and restraints strapped him down.
Conner looked into his eyes with sadness and doubt.
"Kev... Kevin... I'm so sorry..."
"No. This was my fault. This was all my fault."Two buttons raised from the table, one at each side.
"What is this? How did you get such advanced technology in Uganda?" Kevin asked."I know my people. Now here are the rules. These chairs are rigged with gasoline."
"WHAT?!" Conner exclaimed, bursting into tears.
"I don't wanna die Kevin, I don't wanna die! Please, please, please! I'm not ready!"Kevin watched in horror and discomfort as Conner begged for mercy.
"Con... You won't. I promise.""Yes, Conner. There is a way you can live. By pressing that button, you kill the other person. You must choose who lives, and who dies. When the button is pressed, the other chair will burst into monstrous flames."
Conner cried even harder, throwing a huge tantrum.
"NO! NONONONO! KEVIN! KEVIN, I DON'T LIKE THIS!"A tear ran down Kevin's cheek. He knew what had to be done.
Of course on the inside he was freaking out, but he just didn't want to cause more stress for Conner. He was crying, but he was attempting not to scream or panic.
"Con, don't you worry. Just press the button and run as far as you can. Don't stop, don't look back, don't trip. Just run to the mission hut, and stay there safely. Do you hear me?" Kevin instructed, trying his best to hold in all of the panic that was waiting to be released.
"KEVIN, NO! I'M NOT LETTING YOU DIE!" Conner screamed, his face bright red and soaked with tears.
"Conner! Please! I'm begging you!" Kevin yelled in response.
There was silence, and Conner hovered his hand over the button, sniffling.
"I LOVE YOU, KEVIN PRICE! I WAS ALWAYS TOO SCARED TO CONFESS, BUT... But now I-" He confessed softly.
"I love you, too. Every bit of you." Kevin replied with a smile.Conner closed his eyes tightly and took a deep breath.
"Goodbye, Con." Kevin said, sniffling heavy tears.
"Goodbye."He smacked the button and screamed, awaiting the flames to engulf his friend. But they didn't.
Conner opened his eyes cautiously. "K-Kevin? You're alive..."
Kevin looked down at himself and sighed, wiping his tears on his shoulder.
"I- I am..." He muttered, smiling softly.Conner started crying again.
"I'm so... so sorry."
"Shh... don't worry, Con. We have to get out of here. Why didn't the chair work?"
Kevin tugged at the restraints with everything he had.
"Are we stuck? Hello?" He yelled to the voice. No answer. Then, a familiar voice came over the intercom.
"Guys? Guys? Are you ok?"
Kevin gasped. "Naba?! Is that you?!"
Nabulungi ran down the ramp and into the room with quick and heavy breath. She undid their restraints with a key and helped them up."Oh my god... Guys... That must've been terrifying... I'm so sorry."
Kevin easily caught his balance, but Conner couldn't walk at all, and fell to the ground. He was beaten, bloody, and bruised.
Kevin ran over to Conner and kneeled down, wiping the scared kid's tears.
"Shh... You're okay now, Con. Don't worry."Conner was shaking like crazy and couldn't stop crying. He didn't feel like moving or talking at this point. He just latched onto Kevin and cried.
Kevin picked him up longways and grunted, standing up."Am I hurting you?"
Conner shook his head and buried his face in Kevin's chest, sobbing.
"How did you do that, Naba?" Kevin asked, starting towards the door.
"I was running, and I heard you guys. I decided i'd try to save you guys, for Arnold. I snuck up behind whoever that sicko was and hit him with a crowbar. From that point it was deactivate the chairs, grab the key, and get out as fast as possible."
Kevin's heart jumped. "For Arnold? Where is he?"Naba sighed, holding back tears.
"He sacrificed himself for me."
Kevin gasped, tears welling in his eyes. Conner flicked his head towards Naba and frantically shook it."No..." Was all he could mutter.
"I don't feel like getting into detail, It's disgusting. Whatever got into that murderer is revolting." Nabulungi finished, finally exiting the shack.Kevin was sick to his stomach, and still thought he was in some terrible dream. Silent tears and regret were streaming down his face. He couldn't believe he just let his best friend die like that.
They trekked through the trees, Conner still in Kevin's hold. They arrived at the shack and Naba knocked.
Chris opened the door, eyes widening.
"Oh my gosh, oh my gosh! Come in, all of you."
They trudged in, and the door was slammed behind them.Kevin laid Conner down on the couch, and everyone immediately began to flood them with questions like, "What happened?" and "Where's Arnold?"
After the Q&A session was over, They sit quietly, listening to Conner's non-stop sobs. Kevin sat there, soaking in the discomfort, regretting ever waking up in the morning.
