Prove it

Everyone turned around and watched Diablo uneasily.

- There is something outside. No. There is someone out there, not something.

The voice talked so fast it was hard to understand it at all and I had a feeling that I wasn't the only one who heard it.

"Come on, let's all go done stairs."

I couldn't quite figure out who said that but we all quickly went downstairs to where Sonny, Dalton, and Mom were talking. "Is everything alright?"

Mom was up in an instant, seeing the looks on our faces. Dalton was watching Micah like he did something wrong.

"I don't know Lilith, we were just getting to the homepage of the school when Diablo started growling. And she was looking out the window as if someone was gonna pop up at any second, Micah suggested that we all go done stairs and we did." Becky started shaking as if she was cold, she looked like a deer caught in headlights and couldn't decide to stay or run.

"Let's go check it out. Micah come with me, Cole and Dalton stay here with the girls." Sonny commanded everyone like it was his house and not Mom's. But even Dalton nodded his head in agreement.

Diablo started following Sonny and Micah out the door.

-I'll help them look.

If I was correct and I really hope not, one of the voices belonged to Diablo, and there was no way in hell I was letting her out there with some creeper.

All I did was take one step forward and Diablo stopped, lowered her tail, and started walking back to me. "Good girl Diablo, good girl."

"She would have been fine out there Lacey. She's not a pup." Dalton actually looked concerned, that didn't last long though. He smirked and pushed me playfully with one hand, "What's for supper twirp?"

"I already have supper done. It's called fend for yourself." With that I stuck my tongue out at Dalton, and he pretended to be mad. Honestly though I could see his eyes light up with laughter.

Dalton was foraging the cupboards when Sonny and Micah came back. "Nothing out there except for squirrels. Diablo probably just wanted to chase them, that's all."

"Alright, thank you for checking it out though and thanks for stopping by. It was a pleasure to meet you boys."

Becky and I exchanged a look and covered our mouths, trying hard not to laugh. Dalton came back to the dining room and shook the guys' hands. After they left Dalton went back to the kitchen and we could hear pots being pulled out.

I walked in the kitchen to see him putting a pot on the counter next to four others. "What are you doing? You know you can't cook."

I walked over to him and started putting pots away which earned me a dirty look from Dalton, "Yeah I can, have you ever tried my mac 'n' cheese? It's the best ever, better than yours."

With that said I placed one pot on the counter along with two boxes of mac 'n' cheese. He stood up and looked down at me with amusement.

I smirked, "Prove it then."
