It was challenging, but Kanika managed to avoid the eyes of her family as she brought the egg into their house.
The entire run-well, limp- home she was contemplating exactly how she was going to accomplish this feat.
The door slid open almost silently, the small squeaks not enough to gain attention. This continued as she crept past the kitchen, and down the hallway to her room.
She secured the egg beneath her bed, hidden until she would retrieve it later.
Then, she left her room, fearing what was to come.
She was right, her mother and sister swarmed around the injured half-elf, quickly treating wounds and listening as she explained what happened. Other than the egg finding, of course. Aiala cast a spell to remove the venom of the Aapep that had bitten her before the two girls wrapped Kanika's wounds.
They told her to rest, and she eagerly obliged.
With a smirk, Kanika placed the egg on the table in her room, studying it closely. She sketched an image of it in paint on her wall. She would figure out a way to explain that later.
Kanika went through every book she owned, struggling to find even the smallest passage about a silver and blue egg. Needless to say, it wasn't a common thing, and it was starting to frustrate her.
No egg in existence matched the description of the one before her.
The half-elf ran a hand through her hair as she groaned in annoyance. Why was this so difficult!? Her father would probably know what it was, and everything about the creature inside.
She hid the egg in her room, allowing no one to see it while she studied it.
Even Miknel had no idea what it was, and that was saying something. Not that she showed the human the actual egg, she just showed her a sketch of it, claiming that her cousin sent it to her.
Still, she enjoyed sitting next to it and watching as the blue vein like threads seemed to move and shift around the exterior of the egg.
On the third night with the egg, Kanika noticed a new light shining from the egg. She brought it into her hands, moving so she could see the silhouette inside.
The moment she did, however, it moved. The creature inside shuffled, causing Kanika to drop the egg with a gasp. Thankfully it landed on her bed unharmed.
Her wounds had healed by now since she was half-elf, otherwise she would have been in blinding pain from that fast movement.
Even this fall did nothing to stop the creature. a small crack appeared at the top of the egg before extending down almost to the bottom. Two more formed on the side. It almost reminded Kanika of a smiling face.
A small squeak made her brow furrow. What in the name of Kasnir was this thing?
The egg continued to crack and break, until with a bright light and a high pitched squeal a small mass cane tumbling out, landing on the floor with a light 'thud.'
Unable to form words Kanika stared down at the little creature, the small lizard like thing doing the same to her.
Then, almost with a smile, the creature tried to jump onto Kanika's bed again, landing on the floor in a heap on its back. Kanika barely held in a laugh as the creature seemed to grumble.
She didn't know why she kept calling it 'a creature.' Maybe she didn't want to fact reality. Didn't want to say, oh, look, there's a dragon in the middle of my bedroom.
The small dragon looked up with wide neon blue eyes, small tongue hanging from its upside down mouth. Small teeth lined the gums, and Kanika had no doubt that even now they would be able to tear her apart.
Still, she laughed at the dragon as he rolled back onto his feet, stumbling a bit.
He was covered in a thin layer of silver fur, the hair thicker and longer along his spine and stomach. The wings were much too large proportionately on the dragon, each almost as big as his entire body including his long tail. The had four legs as she expected, each complete with black talons.
Kanika froze on the spot. Even if sshe grew attached to this dragon, where was she supposed to keep it? It wasnt likely they had rooms built for them.
This dragon would grow, that was definite. She supposed she could keep him here until he was too large, then move him into the woods.
She was snapped from her thoughts when the dragon made a sort of hissing noise.
"Shh," She scolded, "If you want to stay here you have to be quiet." Kanika had no idea if the dragon even understood what she was saying.
The small creature grumbled a bit before stepping closer. Kanika tilted her head as she knelt down before the dragon, extending her arm in a friendly gesture, palm up.
This seemed to be what the dragon wanted, for he bounded forwards and came to a stop in front of her.
Slowly, it placed its short snout in the center of her palm, and it was as if sparks settled there when he did. Only a short moment after a blinding lain erupted in Kanika's arm, focusing on the wrist. Her head pounded, and she didn't even have time to scream before falling to the ground.
