I was at home alone sitting in my room and watching Netflix. My Mom and Dad had gone to the store to pick up groceries. I watched 2 episodes of Dexter and realized it's been 2 hours since my parents left to go to the store. I decided to call my Mom to see what was taking so long, I scrolled through my contacts and found her cell and clicked it. It rang about 6 or 7 times and went to voicemail so I just hung up. I hate when my Mom doesn't answer her phone, she has a phone for a reason, and 9 times out of 10 when I call her she doesn't answer. So then I sent my Mom a text asking what was taking them so long to come home. I then went back to my contacts and searched for my Dad's cell I clicked it. After the 4th ring, he picked up.

"Hello?"

"Hello?" said an unfamiliar voice through the line.

"Who is this? Why did you answer my Dad's phone?"

" My name is Steven and I'm a paramedic, I'm afraid I have to tell you some bad news. Your father and assumingly your mother were in a fatal car crash and are in the intensive care unit right now," he said with a sympathetic voice.

"How do you have my Dad's phone? Is this some sick joke?" I said with disbelief.

"No, this is not a joke. Your father's phone fell on the floor of the ambulance and I had picked it up, I was about to give it to one of the nurses at the receptionist's desk but you called and I answered to see if you might have been a family member."

I hung up immediately and started to sob. The only thought running through my mind was I have to get to the hospital. I slammed my laptop shut, shrugged my jeans on, and threw on a random shirt. I quickly slipped into my Converse and grabbed a sweater. I picked up my keys off the counter, rushing out the door, locking it. I ran down the stairs of my apartment building and ran outside to get to the hospital. My vision was getting blurry from all the tears. I feverishly wiped my eyes and kept running.  I knew it was going to be a 30-minute walk but I have to get there now, I have so many questions running through my mind. How did this happen? What happened? Are they going to be okay?  All these questions that I had and no answers to them, it was driving me crazy. I was only a few blocks away from the hospital. I started sprinting and soon the hospital came into view, I ran the fastest I ever had in my life. I ran into the lobby and collapsed onto my knees, out of breath and tears streaming down my face. A male nurse rushed over to me.

"Miss, are you alright?"

I recognized the voice from the phone call I had gotten earlier. I grabbed his shoulders with a tight grip.

"My p-parents? W-Where are my parents?" I was hyperventilating now.

"I need you to calm down so you can speak clearly. Take deep breaths."

I tried to calm myself by doing what he said when I could breathe normally the nurse helped me off the floor.

"My name is Sage, you answered my Dad's phone please tell me what's going on. Are my parents going to be okay?"

"Sage I want you to sit down here," he said while guiding me to one of the chairs in the waiting room "Right now your parents are in intensive care, and at the moment I have no further information. Do you have any other family members that can come and wait with you, I'd hate to leave you here by yourself?"

I nodded my head "No I only have my Mom and Dad I don't have any other family" I said sadly.

"I'll come back and update you on the condition of your parents if I get any new information."

He looked at me with a sympathetic look and walked away. I pulled my phone out of my pocket and searched for some headphones I plugged them into my phone. I turned on Panic! At The Disco and hung my head low because all I could do now is wait. I don't know what I would do without my parents, and I started sobbing.
