Chapter 3

When I arrived back at the dorm room, I was so tired. It's been such a long first day and I honestly just want to go to sleep, but I still need Kristen's advise. While I wait for her to get back, I grab my science book and start on getting ahead on the assignments.

When Kristen walks in about an hour later, I'm about a week and a half ahead in science and literature.

"So...how was your first day?" She says as she drops her bag and plops down on her bed.

"Um.....confusing." I admit.

"Why's that?"

"Calculus. I understand absolutely nothing which brings me to a question I have for you."

"Shoot." She says as she comes over to my bed and sits indian style.

"Well you remember Louis, the guy we met in History class?" I start.

"Yeah I talked to him for a minute, but you carried on a full conversation with him." She points out with a smirk.

I just roll my eyes. "Well, he noticed me struggling and offer to help me out. We're supposed to be meeting at the library."

"Oooo...somebody's got a date." She raises her eyebrows up and down.

"It's not a date! He's just helping me out."

She raises both her hands in defeat then says "so whats your question?"

"Do you think I should go?" I scrunch up my eyebrows and look at her with a worried expression.

"Well that depends. Why are you questioning it?"

"I'm just....worried. I know I'm being crazy but what if me and Louis become like a thing?"

"Why is that such a bad thing?" She asks, clearly confused.

"I'm afraid Kristen. That I'll have to deal with the same shit I went through with Ryan..." The mention of his name, makes my skin crawl.

"Tori.." That's my nickname. "It's been over a year since you ended it with Ryan. I know how scared you are to put yourself out there, but not every guy is like him. Louis is a good guy, I can sense it. It's time to let go of the past. Don't let it get in the way of your future." By now she's holding my hand and I hadn't noticed I was crying til I felt a tear hit the corner of my mouth.

She was right. Ryan was a terrible person, but he's apart of my past and I need to keep it that way.

"Okay, I'll go." I finally say after a minute of silence.

"What time are you meeting him?" She asks, looking at the clock.

"5:00"

"Well it's 4:36.You should probably get going, I know how you like to be on time." She says mocking me.

I just smile and grab my bag and the keys to the white Honda my parents got me for my 19th birthday.

I open the door and before I walk out, I turn to Kristen.

"Hey Kris."

She looks up from fiddling with her hands. "Yeah?"

"Thank you" I smiled.

She smiles too. "Don't mention it."

I walk out and shut the door behind me. As I walk to my car, I can't help but feel anxious about the evening ahead.

It didn't take very long to get to the library which disappointed me. I was kind of hoping for a long drive to clear my head. I walked up to the entrance and took a deep breath before walking in. I'm overreacting, I know, but I just can't help how nervous I feel. Victoria Marie! Chill. Everything's going to be just fine is what my conscience kept telling me and I decided to listen to her.

There weren't many people here, maybe 10. I spotted Louis sitting at a table towards the center of the library, looking through a book. I walked toward the table and he looked up before I sat down and smiled.

"Hey!" He said quite loudly which got him a shushing from the librarian.

I chuckled. "Hi."

"So you ready to get started?"

"As ready as I'll ever be."

About an hour later, I was actually starting to get the hang of this. Thank god! It wasn't as awkward as I thought it would be. Louis was a much better teacher than our real one. He used words that were in my vocabulary which helped more than you think. My only problem was I just didn't understand what most of the mathematic words meant. I was pretty good at calculus by the time the library closed.

Louis and I walked out together just talking about random things, our classes, what we want to do when we finished college. I wasn't entirely sure yet, but he had it all mapped out. He was going to get his bachelors and masters degree, move to New York, and become a teacher. I was quite impressed.

When we got to my car, we stopped and talked alittle bit more.

"Well I better stop talking or we'll be here all night." He finally said laughing and I joined him.

"Thank you so much for helping me. I really needed this." We both smile.

"Anything for a friend." He says.

Without thinking, I hug him. He hesitates at first before rapping his arms around me and squeezing me tight.

I climb into my car and he stands on the sidewalk and waves while I drive off. I let out a breath I hadn't realized I was holding. I turn on the radio and look at the it's clock. It's 6:30. I guess I'll stop at a fast food restaurant and grab something for Kristen and myself.

When I get to the dorm room, Kris is on her bed with her ankles crossed, doing her homework with her earbuds in. She looks up when she sees me walk in and takes her earbuds out.

"So how'd it go?" She asks as she crossed her legs, rests her elbows on her knees and holds her head with both her hands.

"It went well." Is all I say as I take my toms off and sit the fast food bag on my desk.

"No no no. You are going to give every single detail." She says while patting the spot infront of her.

I sit down and tell her what she wants to hear. When I tell her that I hugged him, her eyes go wide and then she smiles.

"See now didn't I tell you everything would be fine?" She says then grabs me in a hug.

"Yes you did and thank you." And smile as I hug her back.

"So whats for dinner?" She jumps up skipping to the bag.

We eat and talk about our first day. Kristen says she met this guy named Steven in her Geometry class and they have Science together too. She says he's funny, sweet and super hot. He invited her to a party tomorrow and he said she could bring a friend.

"Come on T, please come with us." She begs.

"I don't know Kris. I don't want to be a third wheel."

"It's not gonna be like that I promise. Please I need you. I won't know anyone there." She gives me the puppy dog eyes that she knows I cant resist.

I sigh and prepare to announce my defeat. "Fine I'll go, but not because I want to but because you know my weakness."

She jumps up and down clapping her hands. "Yay! We are going to the mall tomorrow after class. I need the perfect dress."

I roll my eyes and get up to change into my pajamas which is basically just a sweatshirt. I brush my dark hair and put it in a ponytail and walk into the bathroom and brush my teeth. When I come out, Kristen is already asleep. I smile and before I get in bed I set my alarm not wanting to repeat this mornings catastrophe.
