Jordan’s P.O.V

 *One week later*

Today is yet another midterm day. I’ve already taken a couple and I don’t even know how many are left. Rachael has been in the hospital for the past couple of days and from what we hear from Jay, she’s doing just fine.

I just got dressed and was about to pack my bag with my books when I heard Kat say something. “Good luck today on your midterm, Jordan.”

I spun around and threw my bag over my shoulder. “Thanks,” I replied with a nod. Kat was sitting down on her bed, getting last minute studying done. We still had about ten minutes until classes start.

I looked up and noticed that Willow was still lying in her bed. Asleep.

“Oh gosh, Willow,” I mumbled and climbed the ladder on the side of the bunk bed. I reached my arm out and grabbed her legs, pulling at them. “Willow! Wake up! You’re gonna miss your midterm! Class starts in ten minutes!”

Willow angrily kicked her leg and turned to the other side. “I’m calling in sick,” she said.

“But you’re not sick.”

“Yes I am.”

“Willow, you do realize that being sick of midterms isn’t actually being sick, right?”

Willow shot up and squinted her eyes at me angrily. “I’m still calling in sick! I’ll make the test up, oh well. Just give me one damn day to just take a break from these midterms!”

I sighed and fell down the ladder. “Your choice.” I shrugged my shoulders and looked at my watch. “Come on Kitty Kat, we should get going now. Always want the best seats for tests like this. I hate sitting near the teacher for who knows how long with them staring at you.”

Kat quickly put away her textbook and went to go stand with me at the door. She waved at Willow. “Bye, Willow!”

Willow threw her arm up lazily and waved it in response.

I opened the door. “Let’s go.”

Algebra sure isn’t my favorite subject, nor is it particularly my best. That’s why I’m sitting here in this class, staring at my paper and wondering when on Earth we actually learned half this stuff that was on the test.

See, this is where one of the perks of sitting in the back comes up. I can sit here for the next five or ten minutes, doing absolutely nothing, and the teacher can’t even see me to scold me about not doing the test. Hey, not my fault that I’m thinking.

I twirled my pencil with my fingers and tried to find small ways to amuse myself. If I do this for long enough, maybe the answer will come to me.

I dropped my pencil when I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. Gosh, I always forget to turn that thing on silent during these tests. The kid sitting next to me must’ve heard it vibrate because he turned and gave me a curious look before going back to his test.

It was probably Nathan sending me a ‘good luck on the test’ text a little too late, so I ignored it and went back to my test.

Maybe if I started doodling a little, I could-

The door bursts open and I immediately looked up to see Heather standing in the front of the classroom. My teacher, Mrs. Nayma, got up and started to walk towards her. “Can I help you, Ms-“

“I need Jordan.” Her eyes searched for me until she found me in the back. “I need her now,” she said sternly.

“Ms. Ray, you know that my class is in the middle of taking a midterm. In fact, you should be as well.”
