Chapter 6 : The trap
Swift and Vanessa left the archives together. Vanessa had to go back to her flat to see Lana so Swift decided to go straight to Peter's office to tell him what they'd just found out. This would surely be a great lead to solve this case. He was still thinking about her being so close to him a few minutes ago, it was hard for him to focus when she was around. He went up the elevator and as he got out Peter was actually just outside. « Heyyyyy ! », Peter said to him.
« Peter don't go just yet, Vanessa and I found out something capital for this case, please call everyone and gather them in conference room 1. », Swift replied, proud.
« Where is she ? », Peter asked.
« Oh she had to go back to her flat, we got a class later in the day, she needed to collect her stuff and meet Lana. »
« Oh alright. So you too worked quite hard. I'm gonna call the rest of the team. Let's grab a coffee and head to the conference room together mate. »
In the meantime, Vanessa got back to the flat and was just opening the door. « Helloooooo ! Lana ??? I'm home !!! », she yelled.
« V, for god's sake, where have you been ? »
« Yeah I know it took us a little longer than we thought but trust me it was worth it. We found evidence in a file that might indicate that a previous Russian guy Swift arrested a long time ago could be related to Dimitri. I think it could be his son. »
« Wow ! this is great work ! Where is Swift now ? »
« Still at the Bureau, he gotta tell Peter and the rest of the team. He'll meet us after class I guess. What have you been doing while I was away sweetie ? »
« Basically, I did research for Swift's assignment, sent a few mails to my friends in LA, called my mom too ..Oh and Ian called here three times and left me 3 text messages. I told him you were not back from the archives yet. He said he'll meet you before class for a coffee if you want to. »
« Oh cool, I'm glad you called your mom, hope everyone is doing fine over there. Right I'll text Ian then and meet him in an hour (she looked worried when she said that). I'm gonna need a shower and something to eat. Shall we make some pancakes before we go ? »
« V, what's going on ? I saw the look on your face when you said you gotta meet Ian. »
« I...I'm not sure I can tell you all about it. I will have to break up with him Lana and I know how much it's gonna hurt him..But well, I can't be with someone I'm not in love with. He's a great, smart, funny, handsome guy, but I don't want him to realise he's being with someone that does not feel the same way. I know he's pretty hooked on me so I guess now is the best time to end it. », she replied, tearing up and looking at the floor.
« And you are breaking up with him because...You are in love with someone else right ? »
Vanessa looked up and showed Lana the couch. « You might need to sit down for what I'm about to tell you but you gotta promise me you won't tell anybody. »
They both sat down and Lana started to be a little worried. « Go on then, you can trust me. »
« Please don't judge me but I've been having deep feelings for Professor Swift and I'm sorry I had to lie to you last time I told you we had spent the time doing research on the case...We were not working Lana... We made out and we slept together and I know it's forbidden and it seemed to me that it was a huge mistake too, I actualy told him to give me some space for a while cause i was confused, but we can't Lana, we tried. Every time we are in the same room, we can't stop staring at eachother, I try not to touch him but we know how it's gonna end. He loves me Lana, and I love him too so despite the Dean's warning and the fact that it's highly inappropriate to date a student, Swift does not want to let me go, he's willing to risk his job to be with me and I feel the same way. I know you might not like what you hear and maybe you would think I'm not thinking straight or rushing into it. I know I haven't known him for long Lana, but deep in my heart, I believe he's the one. I never felt like this before and when I'm with him I'm complete. Please say something... »
