Apple Spies - Chapter 5

CHAPTER 5 : THE GAME

Swift was getting ready for his next class. His head was totally not into college work today after learning about that new victim but well it was his full time job now. Maybe he could talk about how to get a new profile for a killer when everything pointed out in the wrong direction. Let's see how the students answer. He would also show them the past century's serial killer cases. He needed to call Peter to see what they had found at the crime scene and will set a new meeting for the team this evening. Then he'd ask Vanessa to come help type his lesson plan in an hour. He texted her : « Vanessa, could you come to my office for some TA typing work in an hour please ? ». Vanessa was at the library studying and preparing Swift's assignment. She saw the text and at first thought it was Ian's, so when she realised it was Swift , she instantly smiled. Being around him was great, she learned a lot in his contact.

« Okey Professor...I mean Alex. I always forget :D. I'm at the library. I'll be there at 9 am sharp. »

Swift was on his way to Mike's office to see if he wanted to grab a coffee and something to eat. As he walked in the corridor, he got a call from Shawn. « Professor Swift. You asked me to look at Dimitri's laptop meta data. I found something really interesting. He actually knows what he's doing. If i wasn't so smart, I would have bought it. He faked his own hack cause he knew we would have been checking that out. But I discovered that he did it from his own laptop redirecting it to different locations in town. He's been playing us Professor ! »

« Oh my God ! Shawn you are awesome ! I will need to call Peter right away. See you in class, okey ? Thanks. Great job dude ! », Swift replied, amazed.

Lana was getting ready to go on campus. She wore one of those customized dresses she'd made when she was still in LA, patchwork of different materials and colours. She walked to the subway and hurried cause she had to drop by the stationery to buy more notebooks and pencils for her drawings. She obviously needed to keep drawing on a daily basis on top of all the work she had to do for Swift's seminar.

Ian just got on campus and was having breakfast at the cafeteria. He was wearing his favourite hoodie from NorthWestern. He missed his friends and the Chicago nights' atmosphere. He would go back for Thanksgiving of course and Christmas. He got up to order his coffee and then texted Vanessa : « Where are you V ? »

« At the library, studying. » She texted back.

« Can you meet me at the cafeteria when u are done ? », he asked.

« Yep, no pb. In 15 minutes. »

Shawn received a text from Ian too and went down to meet him and have a coffee.

« Dude ! How've ya been ? », Ian asked.

« Good. Working on Dimitri's hack. You won't believe what I've just found out ! »

« Tell me !!! »

Shawn explained to him while Ian held his coffee cup in the air. He looked stunned.

« Damn Shawn! It was the killer ! They got him inside the Bureau and let him go ! », Ian yelled.

« Yeah. I guess he could have had time to commit a crime and go back home. I would tend to think he's not acting alone in this. But maybe I'm wrong. I'll tell Swift later. Is Vanessa joining us ? And Lana ? »

« Vanessa will be here shortly. She's at the library and I texted Lana to meet us here too. She's on her way to campus. », Ian replied, finally drinking his coffee.

As he looked outside, he saw Vanessa walking towards the cafeteria. It put a smile on his face. Shawn looked at him and realised he was staring at Vanessa walking, not even replying to him.
