School had just ended and Riley Matthews, of all people, was the quickest to leave the building. February 12th. It was two days before Valentine's Day. She had almost entirely forgotten about the holiday and now she was scurrying as fast as she could home. She had to get something, anything finished for her friends. Before reaching the subway, she shook her head to herself. The better idea, for her, would be to walk home. That way she could stop at any stores along the way. That was a good idea.
Passing down another road, Riley turned the corner, breathing heavily and clinging to the backpack that was bouncing against her shoulders, weighing her down. She sighed, stopping herself, a hand against the wall to catch her breath. She had to figure something out. Hopefully cards filled with deep, raw emotion that would make her friends cry. That'd be perfect.
Moving herself away from the wall, she continued to stride down the road, eyes flickering through the store windows. Nothing seemed to work well enough for her. She glanced down at her phone, checking the time. Maybe there would be a subway here soon, and she could just make a card. Riley groaned to herself, turning around. Maybe it wasn't such a great decision after all. She hurried down the road, trying to make it to the subway station before five o'clock. Which she did... mostly. It was now five o'one, which was not exactly when she wanted. People were already clammering in to the tight structure of the train, which made it nearly impossible for Riley to squeeze her way in and find a seat.
Eventually she did, and sat quietly, yet anxiously, on the ride home. Many times over she stared at her phone, or answered to Maya and Farkle's texts about where she was or why she had left so quickly. To which she replied how her family had a sudden emergency, even though they hadn't. It pained her to lie, but she wanted to keep everything as secretive as she could. Even if that meant locking her bay window off and closing the curtains. The idea hurt.
The subway stopped, and Riley was one of the firsts to stand up and exit the station, before she ran, fast as she could, to her apartment. Her grip tightened around the straps of her backpack as she ran up the few steps to the front doors of the complex. Quickly as she could, the young girl then took the elevator up to their floor, unlocking the door and swinging it open.
Cory eyed his fast-moving daughter. "What are you up to?"
"Can't talk, gotta get started!" Riley exclaimed, running through the living room, narrowly avoiding an accident with the sofa, and eventually finding her bedroom, throwing her backpack down, and turning on her computer. Her brown eyes scanned for good inspiration as she chewed at her lip. She wondered what all of them would like most. Maybe Maya would want something punny... She knew Farkle would want something Science related( most definitely revolved around space. Space is their favorite ). Lucas? Lucas likes sports.. Puns, space, sports. She could do that. She would do that. That would be--
"Riles!"
There goes the surprise.
Maya poked her head through the bay window, scooting in and sitting herself on the plush window seat. "What're you doing? You said you had a family emergency. What happened to that?"
"The family emergency is... is this!" Riley motioned around her bedroom.
Maya raised an eyebrow. "It's your room?" Riley shook her head. "Your... computer?"
"Peaches, you need to leave."
A wash of concern splashed over the blonde's features. "What? Why?"
"It's a... personal emergency!"
"Did you have a.... a dream?" Something suggestive was in her eyes, and Riley just gasped.
"Maya!"
