Michael"Michael. Try making friends today." Mum said. More like pleaded. I sighed stepping out of the car. Nothing like going to a new school halfway through the year.
I slammed the door, walking towards the office. Damn this school is huge. I thought to myself.
"Hello. You must be Michael." A middle aged woman at the front desk said. I nodded.
"Give me one second and I'll send someone down to give you a tour."
-
After the lady made the phone call, I took a seat in one of the uncomfortable chairs.
"Did you need something Mrs. Williams?" A female voice spoke up.
"Would you mind giving our new student a tour around the school?" Mrs. Williams asked.
"Not a problem." I haven't looked up so I didn't see what the girl looked like.
"This is Michael." I looked up at the sound of my name.
"Hi Michael. I'm Tori and I guess I'm giving you a tour around the school." She stuck her hand out for me to shake. I looked at her shirt. All Time Low. We're going to be good friends.
"Hey." I shook her hand after standing up.
"Alright I'll take you down the science wing." She said leading the way.
-
After about an hour the tour was over.
"You don't say much." She said.
"Well what do you want me to say?" I asked. I was never good at talking to anyone. Let alone girls.
"Tell me about yourself. What brings you to Brighton?"
"Dad got a new job."
"Your accent sounds different."
"I'm Australian."
"Cool a couple of my friends are Australian. Can I see your schedule?" I hand her the slip of paper.
"We have almost all of the same classes together."
"That's cool. So I won't be entirely alone." We laughed.
"Yeah and you can sit with me and my friends at lunch. Unless you have a better offer."
"I'll be there."
-
By the time lunch came, I was starving, or nervous I'm not sure.
"Michael hey!" Tori greeted me as we met up in the large cafeteria.
"Hey what's for lunch?" I asked.
"I can tell we're going to be great friends." She laughed, leading me towards the line.
"Did you meet anyone new today?" She asked.
"If you mean talk to anyone. No I didn't talk to anyone but I noticed this one girl in my English class." the one class we don't have together
"Oh really." She gave me an eyebrow dance.
"Oh shut up." I pushed her shoulder.
"Did Michael find a crush?" I rolled my eyes
"I doubt she even knows who I am. She's high class and I'm band trash."
"I think you're underestimating my power." She winked walking away with her food. I followed her towards the left corner of the cafeteria.
"Guys this is Michael. He's new." Tori introduced me. I scanned everyone sat at the relatively small table. Blonde, Tan, Curly and holy shit.
"Hey I'm Calum." The tan one said, pulling Tori down next to him. She kissed his cheek.
"I'm Ashton. Hey sis are you going to eat that?" The curly one said. Okay so far Tori has a boyfriend and a brother in this group.
"Hey I'm Luke." The blonde waved. He nudged the girl next to him who seemed lost in thought. The same way she was in English today.
"Oh I'm sorry I'm Nina." She smiled. I waved to everyone. Nina patted the seat vacant next to her. I reluctantly sat down, already noticing how clammy my hands were.
"So Michael. What brings you to Brighton?" She asked turning in my direction.
I swallowed. "Dad got a new job." I replied flatly the same way I did to Tori. Shit what if she thinks I'm a douche. I mentally slapped myself.
"What does he do?" She seemed genuinely interested. I wiped my hands on my jeans.
"I'm not to sure. He doesn't speak much about work." I looked blankly at my food.
"Nina. Are you still coming over to study?" Luke asked. He nudged her repeatedly until she answered.
"Yes Lucas I'm coming over, but no goofing off this time." She pointed at him.
"Hey baby." Someone said behind me. Nina and I both simultaneously turned to see who had interrupted. Nina instantly rolled her eyes.
"She's not your baby." Tori spat. Calum tightened his arm around her, looking as if he let her go she would be at his throat.
"Was I talking to you freak."
"Jarred what do you want." Nina spoke up.
"I want you. Right here. Right now. On this table. Just like last night." I picked my head up.
"Listen you little fuckboy. Walk away while you can because I swear I'm gon-" Calum covered Tori's mouth. I could see Luke clenching his fists underneath the table.
"Jarred. You know that's not true." Nina tried to speak up. She looked so hurt and vulnerable.
"I think it would be better if you just left." I stood up to almost match his height.
"You think you can tell me what to do?" He roughly pushed my shoulder. I kept my cool as Ashton came up behind me.
"Jarred just go." Ashton said. Jarred scoffed walking away.
I watched as Nina got up to throw away her half eaten lunch and she never returned.
"I could've handled him on my own. I didn't need help she's my best friend." Tori spat not even noticing the absence of Nina.
"I know babe but I didn't want him to insult you. Plus it was Nina's battle to face." Calum said kissing her temple.
"Speaking of. Where is Nina?" Luke asked. Everyone shrugged and I stayed quiet.
-
The rest of lunch went by extremely slow and still no one could find Nina.
"Guys I'm really worried." Tori said nervously bitting her finger nails.
"I'm sure she's okay. Nina is a big girl." Luke said but you could see in his eyes that he was worried as well.
The bell rang and we all said our goodbyes. I walked on my own my last class of the day which happened to be a free period. I was mindlessly walking through the crowed hallway, when I bumped into someone.
"I'm sorry." A small voice spoke up walking away. I knew that voice.
"Nina wait!" I caught up to her. She looked up looking completely distraught.
"Let's get out of here." I said to her. I'm not exactly sure what I was doing but I hoped she would go along.
"But what about class I mean I only have a free period-"
"So do I now let's go." I said making my way towards the side entrance.
"Where are we going?" She asked following behind me. I actually had no idea where we were going.
"Anywhere but here." I said opening the door.
This kinda sucks. Hey what does everyone think of Michael's POV. This was really hard to write so I think I'm going to keep it at Nina's POV
Stay beautiful xx
