Nina

Its been a half hour since my free period started.

A half an hour since I left school.

A half an hour since I got in the car with Michael.

"You should really contact your friends. They seemed worried." Michael said, switching lanes on the free way.

Canals by All Time Low came lightly through the speakers of his black Honda. We both hummed along quietly.

"Are you okay?" He asked glancing at me before returning his gaze back onto the road. I shrugged, looking out at the rain pouring down.

"I'm trying to help you and you won't even talk to me." I glanced at my lap.

"That's the third time I've been slut shammed this week. I guess that's what I get for being nice to people." I sighed. Michael pulled over, silencing the radio.

"People take advantage of you being nice. Either that or you're 'fake' which I think is stupid."

"Can we not talk about this right now."

"Yeah." He pulled back onto the freeway.

"I'm sorry. I just need to think about other things." He nodded turning the stereo back on.

"Now you're stuck plucking three-leaf clovers" We sang in unison. In the corner of my eye I could see Michael look over at me.

"You listen to All Time Low?" He asked, sounding surprised.

"Yeah. If you don't then there's something wrong with you." We both laughed.

"Very true. Wow I underestimated you. Now here's the real question that's going to make me a real fan of you. What is your favorite All Time Low song." He cocked an eyebrow.

"Either Outlines, If These Sheets Were the States, or Heroes." I ticked off my top three. One cannot pick a single favorite.

"Wow you're better than I thought already"

"What's that supposed to mean." I joked. He shook his head.

"So Nina since you listen to one good band, who else do you listen to?" He asked.

"Let's see, there's Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the Disco, Sleeping with Sirens, a little bit of Pierce the Veil, Twenty- One Pilots, Halsey, Ed Sheeran, Mayday Parade and lets just say that's the first part." His mouth dropped open.

"No fucking way." He gaped trying to keep his eyes on the road.

"What?" I asked in pure confusion.

"Wow I totally stereo typed you as some 'Justin Bieber, pop loving, diva'. You seem to surprise me every word you speak."

"I hate to sound cliche but, Don't Judge a Book by its Cover." I giggled.

By around 4, Michael decided it was time to take me home.

"Are you sure you're okay?" He asked through the car window.

"I'm okay. Thank you for today." I said slowly walking up my driveway, towards my house.

"I'll see you tomorrow in English."

"See you." I waved as his car drove away.

Now I have to prepare for the wrath not only from my parents, but my brother and my friends.

"Do you have any idea what time it is?" I heard from upstairs.

"4:30? I'm sorry I went out with a friend and I didn't contact anyone. I meant to, but I didn't." I tried defending myself.

"You better get studying. No daughter of mine is going to be failing an important test." My father scolded. I nodded walking up the carpeted steps.

Text to group:

N: went for a ride with a friend I'm alive

T: WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN

L: Study buddy. I thought you died

C: NINA

A: as long as you're okay :)

T: DOES THIS FRIEND HAPPEN TO MICHAEL. BACK OFF HE'S MY FRIEND

N: i can ask if you can come study Luke and MAYBE I'M SORRY

"Hey Mum!" I called.

"What is it?" She asked, showing up in my doorway.

"Can Luke come over to study?"

"Sure. He can stay for dinner if he'd like."

"Thank you Mummy."

Text to Lukey :-)

N: you can come over and stay for dinner

L: I'll be over soon :-)

-

I changed into leggings and one of my brothers university t-shirts before tying my hair into a bun.

"Knock knock." Luke is my only friend that doesn't knock but physically speaks the action, if that makes any sense.

"Hey! Are you ready to study?" I asked. He rolled his eyes.

"The only thing you need to do is explain. You missed Road Trip with Ash."

"I'm sorry. I'll tell you after we study a bit."

-

"Luke. Nina. Dinner is ready." Mum called.

The two of us ran down the carpeted steps into the dining room. When I entered the relatively large seating area, my nose was filled with the amazing smell of my mothers home made cooking.

"Smells good Mum." I said sitting in my usual seat at the table. Jeff sat to the right of me and Luke sat to my left.

Dinner consisted of small talk and fork scraping.

"So Luke how are your parents?" My father asked.

"They're good. Not much has changed." Luke responded politely.

"Good. Tell them I said Hello. How's school been?" And here he goes. The good thing about Luke was his parents were into school as well because his mum is a maths teacher.

"Schools been good." With that, all conversation at the dinner table was over. This usually happened a lot simply because we all are so different. Jeff would talk about sports, I would talk about music, Maddie would talk about the latest drama. And Chris probably wouldn't say anything anyways, and then there's my parents, all they talk about is work.

When dinner ended we all carried on with the events that took place before dinner. Luke and I made our way up to my room.

"Its after dinner. Now tell me where you were." Luke cut right to the point. I sat on my bed. This was going to take a while.

"Get comfortable because there's a lot."

"I'm all ears."

Ughhhhh this sucks. I'm sorry it took so long and I promise it'll be better just stick around.
