It had been just over a week since Renae joined Voldemort's side, and she never thought she would feel as depressed as she had been since she was branded. She avoided going to any of her classes and barely ate. She avoided going to the Great Hall with the rest of the school for meals. Instead, she would sneak out of her dorm and into the kitchen, where all the house elves were much more than willing to give her an abundance of food and sweets to which she would decline ninety percent of the food they offered her. However, her adventures to the kitchen were stopped when she got caught by Professor McGonagall and was given detention and cost her house twenty-five points for being out of bed after hours.
When Renae returned back to the Slytherin common room after her encounter with Professor McGonagall, she noticed that she was not the only one up. She saw Siri and Draco talking quietly alone in the corner to keep from being overheard. Renae silently crept up close enough to try and hear what they were talking about, and the moment she realized the topic of their conversation, she instantly regretted deciding to eavesdrop.
"Is she seriously that foolish to think that it would ever be okay for her to do that?" Draco said in a harsh whisper, spewing the words out through gritted teeth. "She really can't be that stupid and think that her blood status won't matter. It's already a problem with my parents that she's Muggleborn. Why is she so stupid?"
Renae narrowed her eyes at her boyfriend and best friend while she continued listening. "She thinks that she's doing what's best at trying to protect me, and possibly you if you're forced to join as well. I just wish she was smarter about this. She says she understands, but I doubt she has the slightest clue of what she's gotten herself into."
"Is that what you two really think?" Renae had had enough and finally found the courage to speak up. "You have absolutely /no/ idea what I'm actually thinking and going through. The least the both of you can do is support my decision and let me do what I feel is right."
Draco and Siri were both shocked to find out that Renae had heard their conversation. Draco sighed softly and took a couple steps toward Renae, hoping to get her to understand what they meant. "We both care about you, Nae. That's why we're saying that you made a completely idiotic decision. You had no business doing what you did. He /will/ kill you. That's an undeniable fact. How can you be so stupid?"
"One less Mudblood in this world to worry about then."
SLAP!
Renae stood there, holding the side of her face and feeling it start to turn red and heat up. Tears and shock instantly began to fill her eyes while Draco's were wide in bewilderment. Siri had stepped up directly in front of Renae in anger. This was the angriest that Renae and Draco had ever seen her. Siri ignored the ringing in her palm as she glared at Renae. "Why the hell would you ever say such a thing about yourself? I was right: you really don't care about your own life. You know how much I despise that damn awful word. That's what people used to call my mother, even my dad called her that once."
They both knew Siri's secret of being Snape's daughter; however, neither of them had ever gotten Siri to mention her mother before. Draco looked highly interested in finding out who her mother was and waited in silence, hoping Siri would continue to talk.
Sirenia realized what she had said and thought that she might as well continue. "Harry and I are siblings. He and I have the same mother. According to dad, I look exactly like her, except for the eyes of course." She took off the locket that she had been wearing since her birthday that she had gotten from Snape and opened it, revealing a picture of Lily Potter.
Renae glared at Siri through her tears and threw her hand back down at her side. "You know what, Siri? I am a Mudblood. That's never going to change, got it? Lord Voldemort was right about me, about me being nothing more than the filth of our world. You're just going to have to accept it. Have you realized that I'm the only one in Slytherin who doesn't come from a magical family? I wasn't meant to be here. What exactly do you call a witch who was not supposed to have magic? I'm a freak in both worlds."
"You really want to know what I call you?" Siri said quietly, still with traces of anger in her voice. "I call you a friend. And you're not only just my friend, you're my best friend. We've been like sisters since first year. And you are out of your damn mind if you think I'm going to let my best friend refer to herself as a racial slur. You are not a Mudblood."
Renae sighed and shook her head slowly. She knew that Siri was going to continue to argue her point. One can only wonder how the two most stubborn Slytherin fifth year girls could possibly be friends. It always seemed as though two stubborn people will always bump heads, but these two were closer than just average friends. They were like family to each other. Renae just stopped the conversation where it was and left to go to bed. She had enough for one night. She crawled into bed after taking a sleeping potion she had made in case of emergencies and was out in a matter of seconds.
