A young sentry guard made his rounds bout the castle walls when an uneasy feeling settled in the pit of his belly as he stopped below the Prince's window.Glancing up, he was greeted with the site of a blackened window and not a movement could be seen inside.

A twig snapped somewhere near by causing the man to spin around, his eyes wildly searching for any immediate threat. After a few beats of silence, he declared that it had just been his imagination and turned back round only to have to withhold a shriek that would've surely made the other guards presume there was a woman wandering bout the grounds. In front of him, sat an adult owl with menacing eyes and the guard questioned how he had never seen it. The thing was so close it could lean forward and bite at his nose if it so wanted.

The chirp of a whistle sounded in the distance signaling the turn of shift. Backing away from the owl and casting one more glance up at the Prince's window, the man made his way to the guard stationary saying things about night animals were causing him unneeded stress and paranoia.

But little did that guard know that his gut feeling was right on the mark and not a stab in the dark. For in the shadows, crouched on a branch behind the owl was a young man of nineteen years and not a single shred of innocence that a child should have, save for being untouched.

The boy watched as the guard walked away muttering nonsense to himself and waited until he was out of sight. In the darkness of the night, he could barely make out his own hand in front of his face as he hid in the tree but it was all working to his advantage. Another short chirp pierced the air to signal the previous shifts had returned and when another echoed it to confirm, the darkness of the tree was broken by the Cheshire grin of the young boy perched there.
