You know those stories about girls meeting their favorite band in airports and meet and greets and falling in love? This. This definetly isn't one of those.
No, this is a story about heart ache. Major heart ache. There is no sappy back story. Just a heartbreaking middle and a somewhat happy end.
I had just graduated high school with my three best friends Amy, Taylor, and Elizabeth. Our hopes were high and dreams even higher. The thrill and adrenalin pumping through our hearts and heads of getting out in the real world and writing our own life stories. Or so we thought.
Amy aspires to go to college get a job and maybe a steady boyfriend, which wouldn't be hard for her, she was five three, gorgeous with dark brown eyes, brown hair down to the middle of her back and has the perfect punk style to fit her personality. If only Luke Hemmings hadn't set her expectations for guys so unbelievably high.
Taylor is a fun spirited, loud red head, with beautiful hair down to her hips and gorgeous blue eyes that change with her emotion. She is five two and aspires to be a musician. She has no boyfriend, probably do to the high expectations Ashton Irwin set.
Elizabeth wants to be happy. She loves phtography and music. She is beautiful. She is shy, when you first meet her but she is hilarious and weird and crazy and amazing when you get to know her. She is five one with glasses and big hazel eyes that sparkle with excitment. She is single. Do to Michael Clifford.
Then. There is me. Makayla. There isn't much to me. Of course. Explaining yourself. You tend to make yourself very unflattering. Especially on paper. I want to be a writer. Or a youtuber. Something that allows me to travel. I'm five one, with red hair down to my upper back, gray eyes that change with my mood and glasses practically glued to my face. My heart belongs to Calum Hood. Thanks to him. My expectations are through the roof.
Fate took the wind right out of us. We could never see each other because of jobs and relationships and family. We made sure to fill each other in when we could, but even those chances were few and far between. We all had one small goal for our first summer out of school. To see Five Seconds of Summer when they came into town. We were getting ready the night of when we all got an email. It read:
"To all persons who bought tickets to see FIVE SECONDS OF SUMMER please do not be alarmed. One of the band members has been very ill and could not do the concert tonight. We are postponing the concert to a later date. To be announced. Thank you for your cooperation."
"It has to be serious, they wouldn't just cancel a concert for no reason, any one know what's wrong with who?" I asked walking out of the bathroom and back into my room.
Amy was talking and in vain finishing her make up, " It was Luke, he thinks it's a cold but that's complete crap. Colds don't come with 103 temperatures, and vomiting."
"Yeah. I'd agree with Amy on this one. What are we going to do now? We have nothing to do with our good looks and energy for the show." Taylor said nudging Elizabeth who was on her phone scrolling through Pinterest... Looking at pictures of the band, specifically. Mikey.
We all grabbed our bags and loaded into Amy's car. She seems to be the
driver 85% of the time. The other 15% goes to Taylor when she feels up to it.
We headed for food, settling for our little cafe because we can never all agree on a chain restaurant. It is one of the few places in town that stays open until midnight, that isn't a bar or club, and we aren't those kind of people. We sit down at our usual table and Wendy our usual waitress gives us our drinks. We are regulars to say the least.---------------------------------------------------------
We were there until 11:30 before we realized what time it actually was. We went back to my house to watch movies until we fell asleep. Amy and Elizabeth lasted Taylor and I far longer in the sleep deprivation competition. One of their World Famous all-nighters.
We went on with out daily lives of schooling, jobs and relationships until two weeks later. We got the long awaited email. Tonight was the night. Dressed to the nines (by "nines" more of a punk nines. Like. Band shirts and skinny jeans and liquid eyeliner.) This was the night we met the loves of our lives....
The concert was amazing. They played so wonderfully and had the perfect set list.
~ Hey Everybody

~ Don't Stop
~ Airplanes
~ Waste the Night (My personal favorite)

~ AmnesiaI'm not one for sappy moments. But, I cried on Amnesia. It all sunk in. How much my life was about to change, the fact that I made it, if only little fifteen year old me knew she would get to see 5SoS live, the joy she would have had. I cried because I wasn't ready to leave this place. This place of music and harmony among people who appreciated it and loved it as much as I did. I cried. We went home exhausted, but completely wonderstruck all the same.
