Oh shit.

Why didn't I consider the fact that Newt would be mad at me if I decided--

Wait.

It was self-defense. He swung at me first. Newt would just have to ask everyone around me and see what they say. Of course, there's always the chance they would lie, just to spite me. The newcomer. Have I done anything to make them hate me? I don't think I have.

" What is going on? " Newt growls, squeezing my arm a little. It's not to the point of pain, just to remind me that he could hurt me if he really wanted to. And I really hope he doesn't want to.

" I was walking back to the Kitchens, when this idiot tried to punch me. " I say, forcing the glare off of my face. Maybe I should've let him hit me, just to show that he started it. That it wasn't a one-sided fight.

Newt turns to the small crowd, " Is she lying? "

I grit my teeth in annoyance. He has a right not to believe me, but I had hoped that he would. That I wouldn't have to try and persuade them.

" She's not lying. Gally just walked up to her and tried to hit her. " Someone from the crowd said and some people nod their heads yes. Newt looks down at the huddled boy on the ground, who's breathing has come back but he's still clutching his stomach. So he can punch, but he can't take a kick? How pathetic.

" I didn't-- " He gasps out and I resist the urge to kick him again. He's trying to lie, even with every one against him.

" Why? " Newt asks, still holding onto my arm. His grip has relaxed, and now it's more like he's resting his hand on my bicep.

" She's not, supposed, to be here. " He says, struggling to speak. Is his breath still gone? Did I really kick him that hard?

" What are you talking about? " Newt sounds tired as he asks the question, and I feel a sliver or pity for him. He must have his hands full controlling these people. Where is Alby? He should handle these matters, not Newt.

" She's here to kill us. " Gally says, slowly climbing up to his feet. " We can't trust her. "

" If I were here to kill you I would've done it already. " I snap. He scowls at me. I scowl right back.

The crowd parts and Alby walks forward, anger written across his face. My scowl eases a little. I can't play innocent, considering Gally will probably have a shoe size bruise on his stomach. But I can at least attempt to be nice to Alby.  Sadly, from what I can tell from some of my thoughts, being nice isn't my strong suit.

" What happened? " He asks, his voice firm.

" The asshat over here decided to take a swing at me, " I say, crossing my arms over my chest, " It was justified self defense. "

" Like hell it was! " Gally growls, taking a thundering step towards me.  I casually uncross my arms.  If he wants to get knocked on his ass again I won't stop him.

" Stop! " Alby raises his voice, stepping in between us before he addresses the crowd, " All of you, back to work! "

They grumble and trudge away, disappointed at not being able to see the outcome of what's happened.   I don't take my eyes off of Gally, lest I get attack by him while I'm not looking.

" Explain what happened, exactly.  I want to hear it from both of you. " He turns towards Gally and I grit my teeth.  He is definitely going to spout some sort of lie, and Alby's going to believe him because I'm the outsider here.

" The she-shank came after me. I was walking to get a bandage for a cut and she swung a fist at me.  When I went to defend myself, she kicked me in the stomach. "
