Chapter 1~ a firelights past

My eyes opened at the scent of blood, it came from everywhere seeping its way into my system. My lust for blood was over powering. It all came back to me what happened last night as the growing intense pain grew worse in my throat. The sirens, flashing lights, pounding of feet against the earth as the cold ones descended and my vision went dark.

Now i awake in a forest just beyond the smouldering city. I felt something smooth touch me on the shoulder. My head whipped around a little too fast although everything was clearer. There was nothing behind me but i got distracted by sunlight filtering through the trees onto the rounded rocks. I could see everything, the way the light reflected off the rocks and bounced in all directions, the specks of dust that danced their way in and out of the light beam.

I could hear the light padding of footsteps from miles away..... And then i heard it, the sound of flames flickering, burning down what was left of my city, my home. As reality sunk in i turned my body back to to face the city, again a little too fast to what I'm used to. A gasp escaped my lips because right in front of me was the most gorgeous guy i have ever seen in my life.

He must have been about seventeen, dusty blonde hair, defined muscles, pure white skin, and the most amazing deep honey coloured eyes i had laid my eyes on. They were enchanting but dangerous. Yet i felt safe staring into them. It seemed as if he were studying me taking in each feature as i was with him.

"Wow"

he breathed through his teeth "beautiful".

This caught me off guard, i couldn't say anything i was completely lost in those eyes.

He seemed to understand i was speechless.

"Sorry let me introduce myself, my name is Justin Spark"

he smiled at me so still except for the faint movement of the wind blowing his hair.

"And you are?"

He asked. I tilted my head slightly and replied

"Ellie, Ellie Crofter".

This was the first time i had spoken since i had woken up. My voice rang out musically almost as if i was singing.

"Well it's nice to meet you Ellie"

He smiled, my eyes drifted past Justin and focused on the black clouds drifting towards the sky.

"What happened last night?"

I questioned. Then he began.

"Last night your city, what you call New York, was attacked by blood thirsty killers called firelights. They are a clan of vampires whose thirst is overpowering and they are completely ruthless leaving the victim just bones inside a sack of skin. They were thought to have been destroyed hundreds of years ago, in the great battle between vampires like us and the firelights. Unfortunately the last surviving one of their kind begged our forgiveness in exchange for her loyalty to the sacred ones. And they agreed".

"The sacred ones are the rulers of all vampires, they control everything from crimes to ceremonies. The firelight name was Shine. What did they expect accepting loyalty from a firelight?.

That night she disappeared from our realm, slipping through the crack between worlds into the human world unnoticed and was never seen again. The sacred one searched everywhere in all three worlds, but there was not even a scent to follow, she was gone"

He paused and lifted a strand of my dark curling hair, before letting it go and continuing.

"For the first few years we all worried what would become of her, but after awhile we still heard nothing and stopped worrying, it were as if she disappeared off the face of the universe. A few weeks ago we were informed of random attacks on the human race and decided to take a look. Thats when we saw her, as beautiful as ever. Blonde hair fell down her back, violet eyes, smirk on her face, so confident compared to the tiny frightened vampire who surrendered all those years ago".

"We realised what she had done, by escaping she continued with the plan of her kind to take out the sacred ones and take control of the vampire world by infecting others creating her unstoppable army of blood drinking demons". He finished, i took a deep breath. He took my hand.

"I know this is a lot to take in but we don't have time to waste"

And with that he started leading me down a dusty path towards the city.

"Wait so your telling me vampires exist?"

I asked my voice weak as a response to what he had just told me.

"Yes and other supernatural beings to, Demons, Warlocks, Mermaids, fairies also known as the fey, its mostly all real they just live in a different world to what you know", he smiled.

I stopped walking and he turned to look at me, i looked back i could tell he could read panic on my face.

" why did they attack New York?"

My breath was shallow. He hesitated.

"They were looking for you"

As his words sunk in i felt my breathing become heavier. I gulped.

"For me?" I was shocked what could and army of 'blood thirsty' demons want with me, Ellie Crofter, aged sixteen who attended New York Academy for girls. Lived in a small apartment with her mother and little brother Eric, what could they possibly want with a young girl who faints at the sight of blood?.

The wind sent my jet black hair swirling around my face as i tried not to fall over. Justin put his arm around my waist to support me.

"What do they want with me?"

I asked him.

"I will let someone who knows more about that tell you,

"but first lets attend to your thirst" he laughed and pulled me down the path a little further.

As we neared the city the air became thick with black smog. The pain in my throat was intensifying as the sweet metallic stench of blood filled the air, my mouth watered. I felt a sharp pain on the inside of my top gum, i tasted my own blood fill my mouth. I raised my hand to my bottom lip and found that it had been split open in two places. My tongue brushed against my teeth and i realised two of my teeth had grown into sharp points.

"I can see you found your fangs"

Justin said. I caught his gaze

"M-my what?"

My mind was racing why was i acting like this? The lust for blood, being able to see everything super clearly, react to things before i even know what I'm doing.

Suddenly able to smell, hear, sense thing that i couldn't before, and fangs? What was i? Who am i? My thoughts were interrupted by Justin.

"Last night i was sent here to awaken you"

I untangle my hand from his and turned to face him,

"awaken me?" I shook my head in confusion.

"What do you mean?"

My eyes searched his face for an explanation; he was so beautiful, perfect angles to his cheek bones, the way his mouth curved up at the corners so slightly. He sighed and said

"I was sent by the sacred ones to awaken you, to find the chosen one and bring her to the light, before she would be taken by evil. Ellie, i was sent to make sure you are put on your path to fulfil your destiny"

I didn't know what to say, i cant be the chosen one i have to finish school, what about my family, where are they now? Are they okay? I lowered myself to sit on the ground in front of him.

"Are you okay?"

He crouched down. I looked in to his eyes, he must have seen the hurt, confusion, and disbelief on my face because the next thing i know he is embracing me. I rest my head on his chest and breathe him in. He smells of lavender and sweet tea, the scent clears my head a little and allows me to think straight.

"Who knows what the fire lights want with me?" I whispered to Justin, he pushed me away from him and said.

"I will take you to see Mr. Granger, he knows much more about this then i do, but first we need to get something to drink" and with that he stood up and continued making his way into the burning streets of New York.
