Chapter 5 - getting away
a hazey glow outlined the girl. she stood breathing deeply. Her pale white dress hung around her ankles. To this girl, all she once had, is now gone. Her dark hair fell around her shoulders. She does not know why she is here or how she got there. But she knew she was meant to be there. She stood on a cliff gazing down at ocean waves hitting the sharp jaggered rocks. The sky a dark grey floating overhead, the rain would cascade down at any moment. The eyes of the girl closed and without anything more she jumped..........
My eyes flung open. The sensation off falling woke me from my slumber. I was alone. Back in the small white room. There was no burning in my throat. That's when I remember the lifeless animal the warm blood and then darkness. I placed my feet on to the tiled floor and stood up. I wore a loose white t-shirt and white underwear. Confused as to how i got in to them I walked to the set of draws the find something else to put on. I decided on a pair of tight leather pants and a long sleeved dark blue shirt. I noticed that sun was setting so it must have been about seven pm. I walked over to the bedside table took the note pad and pen and began to sketch. I drew the girl from my dream standing on the edge of the cliff. I have never been such a great drawer but I always enjoyed it. Just then I heard a knock on the door. A middle aged lady poked her head around the door.
"miss Crofter, your father would like you to join him in the dining room. follow me "
And then she was gone. I quickly rushed out the door just in time to see her turn left around the corner. I chased her down the halls of the old castle. When I finally caught up to her, I looked at her she was really quite beautiful. brown skin dark brown eyes and Brown hair tied in a bun.
"Who are you?" I asked
"My name is Jane, I am your fathers house keeper"
"Are you the one who told my father to leave my mother?"
"yes"
and then there was silence.
We approached a wooden door. She opened it and gestered for me to go inside.
"goodbye Jane" I said and walked through the door.
The dining room was furnished. A crystal chandelier hung above the long wooden table, and at the far end sat my father.
"You look beautiful Ellie " he said.
I sat down without saying anything.
"Ellie we need to talk, about your destiny" he tried again.
"please peoples lives are at stake, people you love"
then I lost it.
"Oh for gods sake. you send some guy to find me while the rest of New York are being devoured by vampires. Do you remember Taylor? your ex wife? my mother shes probably dead because of you. did you know after you left she adopted a baby boy Eric. well hes probably dead too. If you knew New York was going to be attacked why didnt you do something to stop them. Because of you, my friends probably arent even alive anymore. You expect me to sit here and listen to you talk to me about some destiny you created for me. What about what I want? Maybe I want to go home find my family" I looked him straight in the eyes "my real family." I yelled his face fell. The impact my words had on him was making him sad. Perfect.
"Ellie you are meant to do great things to stop shine to save the magical world. You can't just throw it away without trying. I may have done some bad things in the past. But you can't make the same mistakes I did please Ellie help us" he pleaded.
"No I can't go fight an army of vampires." I couldn't believe him.
"Yes you will young lady. Your training begins tomorrow" he was getting angry.
I'm so leaving. I pushed back from the table and stormed out the door. I'm leaving tonight I can't stand to be here any longer. I ran down the halls trying to get back to the little white room. I stopped to try figure out where I was. I listened. I could hear the sound of weeping someone was crying. I looked around and saw through the small opening in the little wooden door to my left, it was Jane she knelt down by the side of a bed with her head in her hands. I slowly walked to the door and pushed it. Creeeekkkkk.
Her head whipped around tears streaming down her face from her red puffy eyes.
"What are you doing??? Get out of here girl!"
she rose from the floor ran to the door and slammed it in my face. Click. It was locked. I pushed on the door again it didnt budge. I decided not to do anything more and continued walking the halls of the old castle.
When I finally found my room I layed myself down and buried my face into the pillow. Walking around the castle had given me some idea of its layout and one thing I have learnt is that the only way out is with one of those transportation steel knifes that Justin has, or jumping off the edge of a cliff.
I sat waiting staring at the little bedside alarm clock. The door was locked I didnt feel like talking to anyone. Justin had knocked on my door a few times. I pretended to be asleep. The time read 11.30pm. I knew if I was going to do this, now is the time. I crept out the door of my room and tiptoed down the hall. I stopped outside a wooden door, held my breath and quietly pushed it open. The moon shone bright though the window casting light onto Justins sleeping face. His breathing was even. He was so beautiful. I kinda felt bad for leaving him with my father, but I have to go. I crept along the floorboards to the chair in the corner of the room. It was piled up with clothes from the previous days. I quietly went through every pocket of each pair of jeans. But found nothing. Looking around the room my eyes rest upon something glinting in Justin's hand. The knife.
I know I have to get it off him so without a second thought I crept towards him trying not to make any noise. Slowly i moved his fingers one by one off the knife handel and swiftly took the knife. I dashed out of his wooden door and down the hall back to my small room. slamming the door behind me i turned the lock.
Now all I have to do is figure out how to work this. I turned the knife over in my hands. it was a beautiful weapon sharp shiny blade jewel encrusted handle. I remember Justin using it one swift motion through the air. So I did. A shimmering portal opened up before my eyes. Taking a deep breath I stepped in to the portal. A tingling sensation ran up my arms and down my back as the bright intense light enveloped me. The golden light slowly dispersed and my feet were standing in wet green grass. I was on a hill side under an apple tree. A cool breeze blew my hair around my face. I closed my eyes and breathed in the cool air... Without any warning two firm hands gripped my shoulders and pulled me backwards. My heart jumped out of my chest and bright light surrounded me and I hit the hard wooden floor of my small white room. I was being pushed to the ground. My vision was blurred.
"You try stealing my knife again and I will kill you" said a voice taking my hand and helping me up. I looked into the honey coloured eyes of Justin. He smiled and said "if you want to get away I suggest you go jump of the cliff again only this time I wont be there to catch you" he said.
I dont know how long I sat there. Might have been minutes maybe hours. When I finally got up I got myself into bed and pulled the covers over my head. Hot tears streamed down my cheeks. I nearly had it I was nearly free. Now my father was going to force me into training. Thinking about my mother and brother I drifted off to sleep.
