I spend the following three weeks in Austin because of my stomach wound still healing after it got pierced with a metal bar. I spend those weeks with Josh, of course, scavenging Austin, gardening vegetables in his backyard , helping him with fixing his cars and motorcycles, sometimes helping him with cooking lunch. Me and Josh also got to know each other a lot better. Josh's from Philadelphia but moved to Austin when he was two. He was only child and lost both of his parents right on the first day of the outbreak. I feel bad for him.
We actually became quite good friends. He told me that he's always a bit of daredevil and that when he was young he always broke the rules at home and school. That though kinda makes me giggle actually. In the evening us two would always take a long walk through the misty and smoothing atmosphere in the neighborhood. He even gave me on of his motorcycles, a Ducati, to keep. He's a nice guy.
While Josh is busy working on the stuff that I have no idea what they are, during the day, I ride my Ducati to my house. I sit on the front porch and draw whatever comes to my mind and listen to the occasional porch bell ringing as the wind rushes by. That porch bell reminds me of the times when I used to play outside and my mother would ring the bell on purpose to call me to dinner.
I don't really enter my house after the encounter with Pamela's body. A week earlier, me and Josh took her body and made a small altar in her bed, in her house. I dressed her in her favorite one shoulder strap yellow dress, we placed a bouquet of her favorite flowers on her lap, white tulips and made her bed with a silvery white bed sheet, a silvery laced pillow,we decorated the edges of her bed with red tulips and spread petals of them around the floor in her room. At least she lies in peace in her own home. Rest in peace Pamela.
The following evening, I don't really have anything to help Josh with, so I got sit on the bed in my room, drawing a running horse. I've always been a great artist. A few minutes later, a tall, handsome boy with brown hair with a gorgeous fringe covering his forehead, divine blue eyes and oval face comes into my room. Josh.
"Hey Myra!" he says.
"Hey!"
"What'cha doing there?" he asks with a wolfish grin on his face.
"Nothing much, just drawing a running horse," I say.
"That's funny, 'cause' when I was five I used to go to horse riding lessons. But I fell off the horse all the time." he says.
I giggle with a big smile.
"Hey Myra can I tel you something?"
"Sure!" I say.
" I just want you to know that I will look out for from here on out. Always. And I promise we will find Mitchell. Together". he says as he presses his palms on the bed and leans closer to me." I really like you Myra!"
I am totally speechless about what he just said. I admit I really like him too, but what he said. He will always look out for me. I believe him. He saved me from death back in the Dark City,he saved me from having a huge outraging loss of insanity back in my house , he took care of me and I have become really good friends with him in the past three weeks."Josh,I...,"I start to say, "Thank you! I really like you too!"I admit.
Without hesitating, he leans even closer to me until I can hear his breathing, cups my face into his hands and kisses me. A passionate first kiss. He really cares about me.
He pulls away from me for a second, but I pull him towards me and make our lips touch again. This time, he slides his hands on my waist and gently squeezes it. We kiss again and I wrap my arms around his neck as he holds my waist and slowly lifts me off the ground.
We make out for a minute, holding me in his arms, until he finally says, " I love you Myra!"
" I love you too!" I reply.
That night we sleep together in my double bed, in my room, him embracing me with one arm, his warmth warming me, my body against his chest, his breaths against my neck, relaxing me and we sleep like babies.
