"Come on sweetie, get up, you can do it!"says an echoing voice.

I moan but I am conscious. All I can remember is being shot with a tranquilizer dart and blacking out.

I try open my eyes and I find myself sitting on my knees in an alley. It's raining heavily.

"Come on Myra, I know you can!" says the echoing voice again.

I try to move, but it feels like my hands and legs are made out of rock, not flesh. With a bit of struggle, I manage to lift my head and see my mother standing in front of me, leaning forward, her hands pressed on her knees.

"Mom..?"I try to say.

"Get up Myra."

Where am I? Am I dead already?

With all of my force, I try to drag my legs forward and try to stand up but I end slipping on the slippery concrete.

"Myra, you can do it. You are brave!"she says.

"I can't get up, my body just doesn't want to."

"Listen Myra, you survived in this world for 8 years, you are more than brave, and you are smrt. Remember when I told I saved people everyday by performing surgeries? Well, you will save the world as well!" she says, looking directly at me.

"It's too late for that, mom."I'm really sorry. I am all alone now, the Dark ones found me and my fate will be just like everyone else was." I say. I am hopeless. Hopeless. But at least I will get to see her again, and dad and Neil and Pamela

"It's never too late Myra." she says as she slowly dissolves into the wind.

With a bit more effort, I finally manage to get up. I take a few steps before I hear Josh's voice coming from behind me.

"Myra!" he says.

"Josh, this is all my fault. We should've never left to find Mitchell. We should've stayed in Austin. Now it's entirely my fault that we will be exterminated." I say darkly and look down. Josh stares at me for a second, then runs his hand over my wet hair.

"It's not your fault Myra. Since the Dark ones arrived on this planet, even if we survived more than anyone, we would've had to face our fate eventually".he says softly.

I just continue to look down.

"I love you so much!" he says as he leans in closer and give me possible a last kiss.

"I love you too!" I say and I slump my head on his chest.

He puts a hand under my chin and tilts it upwards, making me see his face. " Be brave Myra!"

That's the last thing he says before he dissolves slowly into the air too.

"Any last words, human?" says a Dark one voice I assume, inside my head.

"You may have wiped humanity off this planet but you will never be able to destroy our courage and hope!"

And that's the last thing I say as I look down and see myself slowly dissolving into the air as well.

                                                                                   *****

I wake up and find myself inside a black metal cell. The only piece of furniture is a black metal bench. Why didn't the Dark ones kill me already? Isn't that what they wanted?
