It was so exciting. The idea. The concept. She called her to share her enthusiasm. It seemed almost as though she had called her a thousand times.

And just like the time before, she hadn't answered. So she left a message. Again.

"Hey, Allison, its me. Just wanted to check up on you." She said. She took a deep breath before saying the next part. "Hey, um, are you ever going to call back, because I haven't heard from you all summer. Just know I'm always available."

She hung up and sat on her bed. Allison had been her best friend since first grade. There was no way she had forgotten about her.

The sky was dark. She decided it was in her best interest to go to sleep.

As she got in her covers and warmed up, she looked at the box on her nightstand.

I miss you mom. Hurry back.

The day was gorgeous. The rose colored sky matched her excited attitude. She picked the nicest outfit she had. Dark navy battered jeans, a black tank top, a leather jacket and matching boots. She brushed what little was worth it of her black hair and she washed her face. After that, she put on a thick line of eyeliner. She looked at herself in the mirror into her piercing blue eyes.

You can do this, she said to herself.

She walked down the hall to breakfast. She could smell waffles in the toaster.

"Smell nice?" Her dad asked her.

"Oh yeah," she replied.

"Well, you're going to have to take it to go." He said."Your going to be late."

She took her waffle from the toaster, she put some butter on it and she ran out the door.

The day was cool. The autumn L.A. breeze felt good in her hair. She walked down Shoreline Drive to her high school. Traffic was heavy, as it normally was on Mondays.

This would be her first day in high school. The best part was that she would be fighting the tough times with her best friend. Maybe she would make new friends and they would fight alongside of her and Allison. She didn't know what was in store for her.

As she walked up the street on which her school stood, she looked around in the crowd to find Allison. She didn't see her dark brunette head anywhere, but as she walked into the building, a blond head with dark roots started jumping up and down and waving at her. When she saw her face, she instantly knew who she was.

"Allison?" She said in almost a whisper.

"Kallisto!" Allison squealed. She ran to her and they hugged while jumping up and down like little five year olds.

"Oh my god, you look so different," Kallisto said.

"Do you like what I did with my hair?" Allison asked.

"Yes, I do." Kallisto said. Just then, a blond dude walked up behind Allison. She turned around and greeted him with a kiss on the lips.

"Uh, what did I miss?" Kallisto asked.

"Oh!" Allison chuckled, "sorry about that. This is my boyfriend, Blake."

"Oh." She said, finally realizing. A hooded person had walked up behind Blake. Their hood covered their face. "Who is this?"

"Oh, this is Marcus the buzz kill. Marcus, say hi to this lovely young lady." Blake said. He yanked off Marcus's hood. Marcus had beautiful coppery hair and his eyes were a warm brown.

"Hey!" Marcus yelped as he put his hood back on.

"Aw, come on, man, don't be like th--"

"You should leave your hood off. It looks nice," Kallisto said softly as she pulled off his hood. Marcus sighed, but he didn't reach to put his hood back on.

"So, I have the schedules." Allison said, "Kal, you and I have two classes together. Blake, you and I have three classes together, um, all four of us will be together in one class and I will be alone the rest of the day."

"Marcus and Blake, you guys are with me for one class," Kallisto said, "Marcus, your stuck with me in the last period of the day."

"Oh, joy," he said.

"Be nice." Allison said as if she'd said it thousands of times.

"Oh, don't worry, I won't annoy him too much." Kallisto smirked. Just then, the bell rang. "Well, I'll see you guys in class."

School was interesting. There was so much to learn as a freshman, not only scholastically but also socially. She learned which people to stay away from and who to use as protection from those people. At lunch, she saw the strangest thing.

Allison and Blake were sitting with cool kids. Not only that, but other people (mostly guys) were looking at her in awe. That wasn't right.

"Hey, what's going on over there?" Kallisto asked Marcus when she found him.

"They are the dream couple. The strongest guy with the prettiest girl." Marcus said. That was definitely not right. She and Allison were deemed "the dorks of the class" in middle school. Now people thought that she was the face of gorgeous.

"So, what do you do during all this?" She asked.

"I'm the underdog in the shadows," he said, putting his feet on the table like he was the boss. "I secretly help the hero get fame and fortune and I never see any of it."

"Oh." She said. "Some friend to do that."

"I don't care anymore." He said. Kallisto started getting up to leave when Marcus grabbed her wrist.

"Yes?" She asked.

"Do me a favor? Go become a cool kid with them." Marcus said with pleading in his eyes. "Don't end up like me."

"Okay," she said. She walked over to the table with Allison. She tapped on her shoulder. Allison made room for her to sit down.

"Guys, this is Kallisto." Allison said. She put her hands on her shoulders and she shook her a little.

"Um, is she, like, your friend?" A girl with fake looking caramel colored hair asked.

"I just know her," Allison said.

"Good, cause you need to be in a pathetically sorry state to be friends with someone who does their eyeliner like that." The caramel-haired girl said. They all snickered delightedly and Allison chuckled a little. The insult hit Kallisto like a softball to the chest. She got up to leave.

"Hey, don't be so uptight!" The caramel-haired girl said. "Take a joke. I'm Abigale."

"I'm Leaving, nice to meet you." Kallisto said as she turned and left. She could hear them talking about her back there. She sat down next to Marcus at his table and started eating her lunch.

"How'd it go?" He asked.

"I was kicked out." She sighed.

Marcus chuckled, then he said in a serious voice, "Welcome to the club."
