"Yes!" Kallisto squealed, close to happy tears. Before Marcus had a chance to get up, Kallisto tackled him in a hug. When she pulled away, she took the rose he offered. It was of little use at the moment, but Kallisto would make sure she got good use out of it.

It was the night of the ball. Actually, the dance had started forty-five minutes ago. Marcus was starting to worry that the girls weren't going to show up. Blake didn't seem bothered.

"How can you be so calm?" Marcus asked Blake in disbelief.

"Relax," Blake said coolly, "The lady species is scientifically proven to take longer than men."

"Really?" Marcus asked.

"No, I just it would make you feel better." Blake said. This didn't help Marcus's nerves. He then saw someone walk into the hall. It was Allison.

She was wearing a two piece gown. Her floral skirt reached the floor. Her top appeared to be the same material, only it was covered in white lace. Her hair was broached in the back and it was elegantly curled. Blake called to her, but she didn't come.

"Why is she just standing there?" Blake asked Marcus.

"Pssh, I don't know..." Marcus trailed off as someone walked into the hall. Everyone went quiet, even the music. She was wearing a silver Greek style dress that trailed in the back. She wore black leggings underneath with black, roman style heels. Instead of her regular thick eyeliner, it was winged, with silver shadow above it. Her hair was slicked back and held by the red rose Marcus had given her. Her lips matched the rose and her earnings were two big diamonds that matched her smile. Two wings stuck out behind her, bright white like fresh fallen snow. Marcus just stared, unable to process any words.

"I told you he'd stare." Allison said, nudging Kallisto. She smirked. Kallisto walked to Marcus.

"Ta-da," Kallisto said, making jazz hands. "How do I look?"

Marcus stuttered a little bit, still unable to make words.

"Be honest," she said. Marcus, felt slightly embarrassed because of his inability to make words. Her piercing blue eyes watched him, waiting for an answer. When he opened his mouth again, actual words came out.

"Y-y-you look g-g-g-g-great." Marcus stuttered.

"Thanks, Marcus," Kallisto smiled her radiant smile. "You look pretty good yourself."

Marcus felt himself turn red. He hoped it wasn't visible in the dark hall. Allison dragged Blake onto the dancefloor. About thirty minutes later, a slow song began to play. Blake stuck out his hand and Allison took it. They walked out and started slow dancing. Marcus shifted, not knowing what to do. He looked over at Kallisto, who was sort of zoned out. He held out his hand.

"May I have this dance?" He asked. Kallisto looked up, her eyes glimmering gleefully.

"Yes. Totally." She said, taking his hand. They both walked to the dance floor and slow danced. He looked into her ice blue eyes, she looked into his warm brown eyes. Then, towards the end of the song, it occurred to Kallisto, if he's this good of a friend, I should probably tell him my story.

"There is something I want to show you." She said. She walked outside of the hall with Marcus following close behind. She led him to the small courtyard between the school buildings where the stars were visible. There was a bench near a small patch of grass where some students sat to do homework. Kallisto sat on the bench and Marcus did the same.

"What did you want to show me?" Marcus asked.

Kallisto pointed to the sky and said, "Look."

"That's the Big Dipper." He said. "What about it?"

"The 'Big Dipper' is not a constellation. Its part of a bigger picture." Kallisto made a circle with her pointed finger. "See those three stars? Those are the spine. And those five stars that are connected to the spine are the fore legs. And those six stars connected to the bottom part of the Big Dipper are the back legs."

"What constellation is it?" Marcus asked.

"Its Ursa Major." Kallisto said. "There is a whole story behind that group of stars. Do you want to hear it?"

"Sure." He said, "I have nothing better to do."

"Well, there was a nymph. That's like a...nature spirit. Her best friend in the entire world was the moon goddess, Artemis. Well, Artemis was also a huntress, so she started a group of girl hunters who were not allowed to go near boys, much less have a relationship with them. The nymph was a really, reeeaaally pretty lady. The king of gods, Zeus, had a crush on her and ultimately had a kid with her. Artemis was so angry with the nymph that she turned her into a bear. When the nymph's son grew up, he became a hunter and shot the bear, not knowing it was his mother. Zeus felt bad, so he threw the dying bear by it's tail into the sky and her soul became a constellation. That's why the bear's tail is so long."

"That's crazy." Marcus said.

"Yeah. My mom heard that story when she was twelve. She named me after the nymph." Kallisto said. "She made me promise her every year that I wouldn't end up like her."

"Wow," Marcus said.

"Yeah, I'm probably going to die alone because of that promise." She sighed.

"I don't think so." Marcus said.

"Yes I will," Kallisto said, "its inevitable. I'm 99% sure I'm going to die alone."

"What about that last percent?" Marcus said. He wrapped an arm around Kallisto and planted a kiss on her temple. She chuckled a little bit. Marcus laughed a little bit, too. "What is it?"

"You know, if you wanted to do that again, I wouldn't stop you." She said.

"Well then, I think I'll do it again." Marcus leaned in, but this time, he kissed her lips. Slowly. Softly. Sweetly.
