October had flown by fast. It was already two days until Halloween. Candy bags in stores were almost all gone. Skeletons and ghosts hung from porches. Vampires and werewolves helped each other pick face paint and fangs. Pumpkins now had ghoulish grins and spiders now inhabited every house. Clowns carried axes and jesters carried scythes, each with a murderous gleam in their eyes instead of a humorous light.
Kallisto had been looking forward to Halloween since November of the last year. That year she had been a vampire. Her father had said it suited her because of her light skin and dark hair. She had gotten two cavities from all the candy, a record amongst the youth. Children could only dream of getting that much candy. Kallisto felt it a breeze. And since she now had wings, trick or treating would be a million times easier. Now she just needed a costume.

"Well, how about this one?"
"I don't like the tutu."
"Hmmm... This one?"
"It's a little tacky."
"How about this one?"
"I'm not gonna be Obama."
Kallisto and Allison were at a store looking for a costume for Kallisto. All of her other friends already knew what they were going to be. Allison was going to be an 80's girl, Blake was going to be a cowboy, and Marcus was going to be a werewolf.
"Oh my gosh, how about this one?" Allison asked, holding up a Roman soldier costume.
"Does it have an open back for my wings?" Kallisto asked. It did, as well as a removable red cape. "I love it."
"Can I do your makeup?" Allison asked. "Pleeeeeaaaaase?"
"Only if I can do yours." Kallisto said.
"Yaaaaaay!" Allison squealed. She bought the outfit and had Allison's mom drive them home.

It was Saturday. Halloween. The moon was out, all was dark. Allison, Blake, and Marcus met up at Kallisto's apartment. Allison and Kallisto were doing each other's makeup. Allison got cat eyeliner, hot pink eye shadow, and a glitter star on her cheek bone. Kallisto got tan lip gloss, sharpened eyebrows, and a latex scar on her cheek.
"We'll just say you got in a fight with Marcus." Allison said. Kallisto painted some stubble on Lone Ranger Blake while Allison glued some sideburns onto Marcus the Teen Wolf. After that, Kallisto helped him glue on his wolf-man ears. Once they were done, Kallisto stepped back to admire her work.
"Aww, he looks like such a good boy," Allison said.
"He does, huh?" Kallisto went to the kitchen. When she came back, she pulled out an Oreo. Marcus instantly stood up to grab it.
"Sit," Kallisto said. Marcus glared at her. Kallisto started waving the Oreo in his face. "Sit."
This time, he sat back down on his chair. For extra effect, he started panting like a dog.
"Speak," Kallisto said. Marcus cocked his head like a confused puppy. Kallisto thought it looked adorable. She giggled a little bit. "Speak, Wolfie."
"Woof woof." Marcus said.
"Okay, let's see if you can do a trick." Kallisto thought about it for a little bit. "Hmm... I know. Balance the Oreo on your nose."
Kallisto gently put the Oreo on Marcus's nose. Marcus stood up and balanced the Oreo.
"Okay, now catch!" Kallisto squeaked. Marcus tossed the cookie into the air and caught it in his mouth. Kallisto, Allison, and Blake clapped for him. Kallisto ruffled up his hair.
"Good boy," she said, smiling."Ready to go?" Allison asked.
"Yeah," she said. "Let me just get us some bags."
"I already have some." Allison said, pulling out some plastic shopping bags.
"Oh no," Kallisto held up a hand, "no no no no no. We are not using those little itty-bitty bags."
Kallisto went into her room. "When I was little, I had thousands of different room themes." She rummaged around in her closet. She found four pillowcases. "I have a tie dye for Allison, a herd of horses for Blake, a dusty white for me, and Marcus, I'm sorry. The only thing I have remotely close to yours is golden retriever puppies."
Marcus sighed and held out his hand. "Okay then."
"Nah, I kid you. I have this red plaid one that matches your shirt."
Once they were all situated, they decided to have a little competition.
"It'll be girls against boys. Whichever team gets the most candy gets to have the other team's candy." Kallisto stated."How long do we have?" Blake asked.
"You have to be back here, in this room, by midnight." Allison said.
"Deal." Both boys said together.
"Oh, one more thing," Kallisto said, "once you choose a neighborhood, you cannot leave it. Apartment buildings count as neighborhoods."
"Okay, you guys ready?" Allison readied her watch. "Five hours. GO!"
All of them ran out of the building and dispersed in two different directions. One going north, one going south.

Trick or treating was going phenomenally well. What the two had figured out was that they would split up. Since Kallisto had wings, she could cover more houses in less time. She and Allison carried a plastic bag for the other person. They would meet up at a certain park and give each other the candy they had accumulated in their plastic bag. After four hours and about forty-five minutes, their pillowcases were close to full. Another Halloween juiced of its sweetness. That sweetness tasted familiar. Almost like victory.
"Think its time to head back?" Allison asked.
"Oh yeah. I don't think I can fly carrying all of this." Kallisto said dramatically.
"Are you serious," Allison asked, " or are you joking?"
"No, I'm joking." She said.
"I'm going to call my mom to take me to your apartment. I want you to fly the candy there." Allison said, pulling out her phone. "Can you do that?"
Kallisto was cut off by someone walking up in front of them.
"The children are trick or treating, I see." They said like they were talking to four-year-olds. It was Abigale.
"What are you doing here?" Allison asked, sounding panicked.
"I was on my way to a party." Abigale said coolly. "I didn't know you still trick-or-treated. I outgrew that a long time ago."
"Yeah, well we haven't." Kallisto said. "Are you going to call your mom or do you want me to do it?"
"Um, actually, I was going to the party too." Allison said.
"Uh, no you're not." Kallisto said.
"Hey, this is a free country." Abigale said, "Let her go if she wants."
"We were doing something called trick or treating." Kallisto said.
"Um, in case you didn't hear her, Allison clearly wants to go to the party." Abigale said.
"No she doesn't, she wanted to--"
"Kallisto, please, enough." Allison said.
"I'm not going to let your thoughts be influenced by this brainwasher."
That definitely riled them up. Abigale and Kallisto yelled at each other until Kallisto called her an obscene name. Abigale then lunged at Kallisto. She defended herself as well as she could, but the fight escalated from a few slaps and scratches to all out kicks and punches. Allison, scared out of her mind that one of her friends may be permanently damaged, called the police and reported an assault. The police were there in seconds. Their headlights made Kallisto freeze. She stared at the men approaching her with guns in their hands. She grabbed her and Allison's candy sacks and flew back to her apartment, leaving a fearful and confused Allison with a bloody nosed and angry Abigale.
